Hi folks,

I had a new battery delivered yesterday and finally this morning have got around to getting it sorted out and charged up ready to fit to the Mille. It's a Dynavolt YTX14BS, same as the last one I had.

I recall the last one I had when it came to plugging the gel acid pack into the top and pushing down to break the seal, filled very quickly with no hassle.

But I've done the same with this one and its been sat attached to the battery for about an hour now and although a few of the cell chambers have drained as they should into the battery to a certain degree, it's completely stopped draining now. I've tapped it a few times as the instruction leaflet suggests but it is refusing to fill any further.

Ideas?. It says not to remove the gel acid pack once it has started to fill.

push it down again but fairly hard with a few bangs. Then a gentle - Gentle squeeze. I don take it you pulled the sticky seal off the top of the battery?? One of my cells wouldn't fill a few back and thats all i did. The others emptied real quick but this one took ages. Cheers

Cheers m8, I'll give that a bash. Yeah, last time I did this to a battery all the cells filled very quickly indeed apart from one which was a wee bit slower than the others. But this one hasn't bloody moved levels in the space of an hour!!. I'll see how it goes, giving it a squeeze seems to have helped a couple of the cells but I am guessing you don't want to squeeze it too much in case too many air bubbles are introduced to the battery?.

Right, FINALLY!!!. All the gel acid has finished draining.

Now, it says to fit the press on battery cap cover and THEN charge it for 14 hours. I thought you were meant to charge batteries with the vent covers removed to let explosive gases escape?. Or is that not the case with these maintenance free batteries?.

Yo, charge it with a trickle charger matey....optimate is best, leave the lids on as it is designed that way buddy.

I find to speed up the filling process I just pierce a hole in each of the little containers, I'm always in a hurry!!!!!!!

Cheers guys, I've had it hooked up to the Datatool Battery Conditioner ( exactly the same as an Optimate ) since about 2.30pm. It's showing a green light now for "Maintain". I'll leave it charging till I go to my kip later about 11:00pm. Then it will be getting bunged in the bike tomorrow and hopefully she will fire up without too much hassle. Haven't used the bike for a few months.

Oh, thanks for the offer columbus. :thumbup
