My RSVR is useless

L

llamamoo

I've had this thing for 2 months now, and it's been broken more than it works...
2004 RSVR with 4000 miles on the clock

Right this time its the pissing electrics.. it doesnt want to start, it just slowly chugs and clicks away at me, but if i change the head lights to full beam it starts very slowly, as i ride down the rode and switch to main beams the bike cuts out then the little red key lights up on the dash and the bike fires back to life....
The BENT thing on this thing, for the first time i got to the shops came back out turned the bike on and the dash went a bit crazy and the odo is 00000 and all settings reset, started up ok and rode away ok.

WHAT IS GOING ON????

Check battery condition under start load...got too be in top shape. Check all ya frame ground leads. Ensure all connections are clean in ya power and start circuits. I think there was a charging problem on some of the o4 models, but the man to ask would be Spoonz, he knows so many of the little problems that the different year models have.
Good luck :thumbup

I've cut out the brown connector already, the battery is around 4000 miles from new (3 months old)
also the bikes is in PERFECT condition always garaged..

you may have been too late with the brown connector mod.

Look at the dash voltage with bike at 4k rpm.

If it's much below 13.5 the stator is probably shot. Hence the batt doesn't charge as the electrics are under powered while riding and the injectors etc throw a wobbly and post up errors on the dash.

The resetting mileage was a batch of faulty clocks on 04 models which should have been a warranty issue when it was newer. No fix for that.

Just record your mileage for future owners to prove it's record. chances are the 4k might not be genuine anyway.

Also check the brown connector at the regulator as well as the one behind the coolant bottle, it does sound a bit ominous though regarding the state of the stator, do the voltage check as Spoonz said, this will tell you whether it is charging properly or not.

Did you buy from a dealer? any way of checking out the legitimacy of the mileage on it?

Cant offer you any advise dude apart from you can swap it for my working 01 rsvr :)

Good luck with the bike dude, I would say once you have the a tip top battery and the wiring sorted, theses bikes are the mutts :) stick with it buddy it will get better :)

It was bought from GT Motorcycles which is a approved aprilia dealer, the bike had 500 miles from new when i bought it. i was suspect of this but when i saw it i was sure it had only done 500...

There is another brown connector??

How can i improve the charging?!

one problem after another on these aprilias, i think you might be better buying the new honda VFR1200f that is coming out next year. :thumbup

3 years and 25,000 miles..Trouble feee bar one speedo sensor..Still runs like a dream..Have I been lucky?

How much to trade in my RSVR? Its pefect condition and NO PROBLEMS WHATS SO EVER...honest

have you charged your battery and tried again? check the voltage with a freshly charged battery. if its 10-11v on tickover (like mine was) i'd bet its the stator fried.
