My Italian Ball Ache!!!

yeah mate Sprag/Starter Clutch

yeah we should of had a camera man today it would have been awesome!

Sorry to hear of you having that much trouble so soon fella, a bit of advice with these things, do not start with any throttle full stop, pull out the fast idle and press the starter and don't blip the throttle after starting from cold, these are the things that feck the sprag, good luck with fixing, it's the worst thing about the bikes, but a previous owner has probably being starting it the wrong way.

I have done over 55k miles on Mille's and never had a sprag problem, in fact little very trouble in those miles and the bike does get used properly, good maintenance is the key and good batteries with the correct starting procedure.

Never mind mate, it's not really a biggie to do. There's loads of stuff on here (including the definitive guide with pics - let me know if you need it) and there are cheaper alternatives to the pricey 'Prilla part. I'll be posting a few sprag related tips I discovered myself on here as soon as I get my arse in gear and finish writing it.

Cheers muchly guys... to be fair i bought the bike pretty blindand i think the Sprag was indeed mauled by its previous owner, im not that pissed off about it (afterall 3k for what the Mille is im willing to give it some TLC)

Yeah any tips or hints will be appreciated then i can get parts ordered (Hi Griff) and i'll get on to it. while im there i think i'll give Badgers air box mod a go!

If any local guys wanna come play in the workshop, the kettle is always hot!!!

It was pretty funny, had to be done... sadly we couldnt get enough grip but it was worth it all the same!!!

As for Bumping it, we had a 14st Ex MotoX racer at the helm doing the old jump down bit, and 3 of us mugs pushing. We really put the effort in :doug

Did you try in second gear?

sprag issue!

dude, recharge the battery properly before you spend the money!

even with jump leads on it can still make a horrific noise as i found out on a customers bike recently!!

before you spend money on stuff ytou dont need give it a try dude!!

griffer!

Seriously mate its totally shot, the starter wont even attempt to turn it over now, fully charged over and over again... ******* pain

Infact sad news is guys im so ****** off that i have decided to rebuild it and sell it in favour of an Astra Coupe Turbo as a toy (standing back waiting for abuse) it will be fully repaired and serviced with all good consumables. cosmetically its as near to perfect as you will find and i will be asking £3500 for it. so if anyone is interested let me know. will go on Ebay as soon as i have serviced the sprag.

Cheers for all your help in this short time i have been a forum member.

Alex

i usually give gas in cold when I'm starting unless I need the choke badly. so is that bad? why? was the sprag a part of the starter? engligten me badger.
BTW that moto GP start is hilarious looks like two local female dogs on lose entertaining each other cheek to cheek. lol:jack

Yeah i know...

Id simply get more use for less money out of a car. i covered les than 2000 miles this year on a bike a reckon and it still cost me a fortune, then i buy the RSVR and it spits its dummy at me from the start

Don't sell mate!!

Once you've fixed the sprag issue hang on to it for a while and let the bad memories fade, they will trust me.

Once you have done the sprag follow the correct starting procedures will ensure that you never have to do it again.

These bikes are amazing and to change for an Boxhall Disastra Urbot will not float your boat.

Don't leave so soon!!!

Have you no recourse from the vendor WT? You haven't had it 5 minutes and they may have known it was on its way out.
Fit the BMW sprag, it's cheap enough. A couple of hours work and you're good to go. A pain that it went but not the end of the world is it?

White, if you need any help I am just up the road from you and I know a little bit about these bikes. Also you are welcome to borrow bits off my bike to try on yours as I only use it for fun and not commuting. Happy to help if I can buddy. I could also show you how to start a flooded mille before you flatten the battery etc. The sprag is a problem only if the bike is started incorrectly so if that is the fault on your bike then once replaced it wont be a problem again.:thumbup I will pm my number bro.

Well you're certainly braver than me even thinking about braving the elements, I keep poping to the garage and looking at the bike but keep leaving it hooked up to the optimiser. I did manage a couple of hours out on the push bike today but slid and slithered all over the place so the Aprilia will remain in the garage for a little while longer.

Cheers for the help guys but its gonna be patched up and sold...

Might but a cheap Supermoto to hack around on as well as the 'Stra!!

Too bad buddy, was hoping to ride out with some more Mille boys in these parts. Let me know if you change your mind.:thumbup
