as a network engineer when something breaks the first question you ask is "what's changed?"
you washing the bike is a damn good start, especially if it does eventually start, i'd say you've got water in some part which in turn is earthing your connector,
you'll need to follow the wiring loom around the bike disconnecting all relays etc cleaning and starting between each one.

good job we love our rsv's eh???

start at the battery - relay - starter - generator - rectifier
then fooked if i know, its as far as i've got LOL

Part number is 4KD 81940 00 00

Wylie and Holland is the closest dealer for you, Tel. 01952 248868

I picked mine up last Saturday, its still sat in the box !!! cost £29.95

sorted will nip into wylies on the way back from the course did you go there aswell Ritch? dont ya think the people on the parts counter are reet nails proper nobbers, so unpolite lol

LMAO no surprise its still sat there

The sprag clutch is centrifugal so if it's not spun fast enough then it won't engage properly.

The starter solenoid has got to be favourite or the batt/solenoid connections.
If the batt voltage is too low the symptoms would only get worse with each starting attempt which they are not.
Purely sounds like insufficient juice passed to the starter motor which then doesn't spin fast enough to engage the sprag.

cool spoonz is the yam product mentioned by Mr Ritch the "starter Solenoid " or you talking on a different part

yes same part.

The Yam version will chuck up to 100amps at the starter compared to 60 from the Aprilia part. Will give it a much more convincing spin assuming your batt is good.

Alright Bob its half and half mate its a good 30 mins from where i live aswell i just hope to god its alright

where abouts on the bike is the connections that deal with the starting? ill have a good look after the gym wipe all the connections over etc etc

just tried to start the bike after work started after some weird noises couldnt begin to describe them and i noticed my clocks have now reset :rant

I had exactly the same intermittent problem, clocks resetting etc. I ordered and fitted a Yammy solenoid but found the connection (on the outgoing one) very loose - less than finger tight. Fitted new solenoid anyway. Now 6 months and no problems. The offending solenoid connection was the lead from the battery to the solenoid.
Hope that's of help.

exact same problems ere
my solenoid is due on tuesday, no local dealer round here....

intermittent starting problems..... just seems weird that it started after you washed the bike, so i would still check all connectors.

also could start a thread on how we all clean our bikes, personally i use muc off wth a damp sponge to get rid of all the grime, then wd40 everywhere to clean, plastics; engine; suspension; everything, even chain....

but unfortunately she still gets wet when i commute in the rain, never use a pressure washer to stop bearings getting grease flushed out, just strip the bike once a week and get in ammongst it with a toothbrush and rag

on the pre 04 bikes when you wash it keep water away from going in the left air duct. It has an atmos sensor in there and it gets swamped as the water can't run away easily.

result is often poor running/starting till it dries or an efi warning.

Anyone know if he got it sorted last night, and whether he made it to his course today

No idea, i hope so. If he didnt i bet the air was blue this morning :rant
Mb how did it all go?
agreat1 am with you, muc off and damp sponge works for me.

another answer is to short across the terminals. It will start then

It is worth putting a Yamaha solenoid on your bike anyway, two critical things are a good battery and a good solenoid, spend money on a good battery guys and you will have no problems as it is usually a poorish battery that causes the crap aprilia solenoid to give up, my advice is spend some money on a better output battery and £20 on a yamaha solenoid, after all we are quite happy to spend £80 on a bit of carbon bling, it would be better spent on reliable starting IMO

This is what i fitted and can recommend it, bike turns over quicker and makes starting loads better
