Mille 4th in Fast Bikes test

The Earth shattering torque over an IL4 alone,

Plenty of IL4s have big tq figures, it all depends on where in the range the power is made...... Some V2s feel like they make more tq than the RSV, the Morini Veloce and the Victory being examples.............

Surely something like a Gixxer1000 or an R1 has MORE torque than an RSV ?

I thought it was all to do with how the twin DELIVERS it's power?

Zackly, you can gear and tune a lump to make power in different ways.

The newer Jap sports have had there power pushed further and further up the red line to get the BHP..Some of the MAGs are now saying the older Jap sports were better road bikes power wise than the new models.

Thats why the 04 Gix came ahead of the RSV in the FB test, which I thought was very fair, they loved the RSV, always have.

When I first got on my RSV straight from my 02 R1, it felt gutless..(Still on original pipes then + map 1)
Still have a soft spot for the GSXR1100K I owned many moons ago. That had instant stomp in any gear.

....which shows that IL4s used to have plenty of grunt.........anyone who thinks an IL4 doesn't make usable tq wants to go for a blat on an XJR or a ZZR 14, fookin ell thats sorted ;)

When they grow up I'm sure their appreciation of the RSV will mature.

See above, they love RSVs. Just didnt win the test, no big deal.

Just enjoy what you got, two wheels and a motor , luverly jubberly

Its hardly surprising its not the fastest as Aprilia havnt done a fcukin thing with it for 6 years, the jap IL4 companys are constantly tweaking this and that to uprate engines, handling etc, i think it did well to come 4th, Vtwin suits my riding style, i know for a fact the new generation of jap bikes will outclass mine in so many ways, thats progress, its a shame Aprilia didnt uprate the RSV aswell as bringing the V4 out, i personally wouldnt want to go back to an in line 4 but i would never slag them as realistically they do outclass the dated RSV's on alot of levels

Just my take on it..............

all bikes have a life of their own i think, we all get different things from riding them.
i thought my old 94 blade was the best bike i had ever ridden, it could keep up with my mates gsxr 1000 without any real problems, but then when i was given an ratty old honda dominator to rebuild and ride i thought how much fun that was. i used to jump on that rather than the blade and have just as much fun.
but i have to admit the rsv is the only bike that 'gets under your skin'
the blade and dommie were great but i would ride them then put them away until the next ride, maybe kick the tyres and check the oil once a year etc, you get my drift.
but the mille, can't really say why, but its the only bike i've had that makes me want to go out for a ride, makes me want to take things apart and fiddle with it etc.
i dont really care if my mates R1 is faster if it wanted too, or another mates gixxer thou has 174hp, we all ride the same roads at roughly the same speeds so it don't really matter.
as long as were out there enjoying ourselves, and riding safe is all that counts in my eyes.

Absolutely.

I honestly dont give a feck what anyone rides, as long they're having some fun.

Not joking there's an old dear on ancient C90 down here, she gets it MOTd where I go, her family tried to get her to stop and she refused, she's had a good innings and she loves it (erm riding the bike). :doug

Lets hope we're all so lucky, by the time we get to her age we'll prolly be shuffling around with pipe and slippers.

Good for her! When im eventually too old to ride im gonna make meself a rotax-twin powered mobility scooter! :biggrin :biggrin

...Also it comes down to skill and Balls...

I have a tuned hayabusa and only used it's top speed a couple of times, (tip for the summer, m20 coming into london at 16:00=no traffic) was a laugh doing 200+ but what is the point? the slightest mistake and you're a grease bump.

I've bought an 04 factory because of the quality and the handling, but at the end of the day its still a missile, even if its a couple of mph down on a big four...just open the throttle a bit more :)

I, like most of you have a had most of the major sports bikes of the 90's and 00's and they are all pretty fast, splitting hairs over a few mph is just what the factories and sports bike mags want us to do. the amount of money I've spent on bikes to get that last 10'th is stupid...I could have bought a small house.lol

Interesting you say that. Two of the places I work for did datalogged runs on stock Busas and Brunters and no matter how hard they tried, using experienced pilots, they couldn't crack 200, never mind get above it. I doubt a naturally aspirated Busa's ability to crack 200 on a level playingfield.

In fact the 09 Busa wasn't the fastest straight liner, that was a ZZR 14 which still holds the mag record. The S thou beemer looks a serious contender. (When I rode the ZZR and the thing which surprised me was how good it was off a straight line, handling was in a different league for a heavy bike.)

Its also insane to travel at those speeds on public roads in the UK, dont care if you're Satan.......or Santa ;) Ho ho ho........

I agree, but mine isn't stock...1475 stroked motor:)

...and you're right about it being stupid, but I just wanted to see what it would do, scared myself silly.

Mind you, who here stays in the limit?

ie an IL4 with torque, which is where I came in on the thread. Hope you got some decent anchors...............;)

Anyway as said before, dont matter what you ride/how old you are, just enjoy.
