Mille 4th in Fast Bikes test

i personally have ridden many, many japs (v2, v4, i2, i4) even i didn't personally own only one jap bike which i still own. for me it isn't the performance of the engine that gets me off. it's just i haven't ridden a bike (super-sport or sport-touring) that was so maneouvrable and comfy as the old rsv. the 04-ongoing i don't feel is so comfy even though they are AWESOME in terms of handling also. on the street the rsv is SWEET and on the track, tight tracks, anyway, with the right mods it's putting to shame on the newest 600's...

a z1 has ****** sheds loads of character, believe me.

just for the record i had a z1000 and i did 1200 miles on it from new and sold it .what a load of pap my friend.

What we are talking about is exclusivity above all imo ... Yes il4 japs are good but they are the victim of their own success ... Too many around ..........

It all comes down to personal choice but for many of us theres nothing quit like the rsv you may not be able to quit put your finger on it but its an awsome bike.

who said anything about a Z1000? :dunno

I was talking about a Z1 FFS.........very different animal.

Much much later I also had a modded ZRX which had a lot of ZZR 1100 involved ;) awesome naked bike, wrestle it around and have some fun, more character than you could shake a stick at.

People forget that nine or ten years ago (never mind the days of the Z1) even Jap sportsbikes still had a bottom end and pulled. Just because something has four cylinders doesnt necessarily mean its down on usable torque.

In the first instance, the best Jap twin was the little SV 650 IMO. It proved they can get it right,

Spot on bike, that! Had a k6 sv650s before the mille. It worked so well and handled excellently, thanks to the engine and chassis being designed to work together (none of this 'detune a sports bike engine and whack in a cheap as poss frame) used to keep up with the thou's on all but the long straights. Unbelievable for a budget middleweight. Would love if they had made an sv650r with stronger brakes and fully adjustable forks...that would take some beating on the twisties! :biggrin

I like the SV650 but it's not the legend some make out!
Even with posh suspenders and brakes it won't beat a sportsbike with an equal rider on it.

Example?

Take Kawasaki ER6F- Ryan Farqhuar (spelling?) races one on real roads and he's bloody fast on it.

But he's still quicker on a sports 600 or much, MUCH faster on a 1000cc ZX10.

I know we can all have our favourites, but this is pretty conclusive proof that japanese 4 cylinder bikes are good.

In 2009 Cal Crutchlow lapped Donington faster on his R6 than a 500cc GP bike has ever managed.

How can we keep saying that 'Jap bikes are bad' despite all this evidence to the contrary?

I also think it's a touch biased that the anti-4 cylinder mob group all japanese il4's together.

Seperate them into R1, R6, Zx10, ZX6, Gsxr10, gsxr750, gsxr6, fireblade, cbr600 etc etc etc and you'll probably see there are numbers of RSV's and models of Japanese bikes at your local cafe

gotta say mate i have never seen equal numbers of rsv's against any of the above at meets except when we had the northern lads ride out :devious.

and we are not saying japs are bad just common .

My last bike was a ZZR 600. I got a '01 RSV R in December and will never look back.

The Earth shattering torque over an IL4 alone, compensates for "who's **** is longer" in any magazine.....:jack

Flat out who's bike is faster isn't the end all be all in my humble opinion:thumbup

Surely something like a Gixxer1000 or an R1 has MORE torque than an RSV ?

I thought it was all to do with how the twin DELIVERS it's power?

From my (limited) experience the I4's seem to give a greater impression of speed anyway,it seems very easy to aproach a corner on the twins thinking you are going much slower than you really are.

I think the thing is about Jap bikes generally is they are so quietly efficient that they don't involve the rider much at sane road speeds.
I felt the same with the 1050 Speed triple, yes I was pushing it harder than my Sv,but I had to ride it like that otherwise I wouldn't have got any satisfaction from the thing. As it was I took it back after about 1/2 hr,couldn't wait to get back on my Sv:thumbup

The Mille came along later, I'm a twin person, confirmed :inlove

My mates girlfriend couldn't orgasm.
I took her into my garage - where my APE resides - and guess what ..............
Didn't touch her guv - but the bike did!

The newer Jap sports have had there power pushed further and further up the red line to get the BHP..Some of the MAGs are now saying the older Jap sports were better road bikes power wise than the new models.

When I first got on my RSV straight from my 02 R1, it felt gutless..(Still on original pipes then + map 1)

Still have a soft spot for the GSXR1100K I owned many moons ago. That had instant stomp in any gear.

Crikey, that article created a response, but it has to be put into context Fast Bikes is aimed at the spotty adolescent market, who are influenced by somewhat different aspects of motorcycling than most of us.
When they grow up I'm sure their appreciation of the RSV will mature.

Geeeezzzzzzz, I didnt think I was that old until now.

Someone hand me my pipe and slippers :nana

Ah, to be fair I am a spotty adolescent!

Well, I'm 27 with acne. Close enough i suppose....

Probably says a lot; I only passed my test at 21 and whilst my first bike was a 750 Monster I've spent most of my 6 riding years on 600's.

Oh, and 2 stroke mx bikes.
