I had the left signal cluster replaced d/t a short, and now I can't get my trip meter to reset like it used to. It takes several touches to make the damn thing zero now. I'm taking it back to see what they can tell me.

I have heard of this sort of thing before. Some have seen problems with their earth wires under the seat, others have had poor connections elsewhere.

I can relate to this problem, I have an 08 model and the service light would come on intermittingly, I took it back to dealers, mechanic started shaking his head when I told him problem, apparently they are renowned for it and put it down to bad earth, :banghead, on a new bike surely not.
Anyway, I took it home and checked wires myself, tideid a couple up put back together and bikes been ok ever since. :thumbup

Today i had a quick test.

Showing 12.78v this morning and did approx 5 miles, with 4 re-starts in between. Bike still showing at 12.80v now.

I'm pretty happy with that as the 4 starts should have taken a chunk of cranking power to get it going each time with very little charge time in between.

I think we're happy :)

I hope you're talking about your Tuono and not you pacemaker Weeksy:lol

Glad to see her sorted mate.:thumbup

I've done the clocks/dash mod installing the capacitor to stop the clock resets and hardwired in the connectors for the Solar charging unit.

:)

Don't you mean that your bald patch is a solar panel for a *** machine?:sigh

Have had similar issues with my old-model T. Use it almost daily, and sometimes it don't like starting. I find you can touch the starter, and if the pistons happen to be in a certain position (say one is just coming up to TDC on the compression stroke) it struggles to turn over, then the clocks all reset. Only takes a bit of battery drain to cause this. Trying to turn 2 big high-compression pistons and fire 4 plugs (with all the lights on permanently, which doesn't help) can sometimes be a bit much. I have a charge/monitor unit with easy-access connector which I plug in every night. Bit of a ***** having to do it, but you get used to it. Never had a problem since.

Heard similar things about changing the starter relay for a Yam model, and soldering the wires in the brown connector plug under rear fairing.
I've also had the problem with a dodgy/loose earth connection to the frame - went to start it one day, there was a loud pop then all the electrics died. Had to get breakdown out cos I was 100 miles from home at 8pm. Easily sorted in the daylight the next day when I worked it out.

I know what you mean about losing confidence - I started to get wary about killing the engine everytime I stopped. But don't lose heart - implement some of the fixes mentioned by everyone above and it'll see you through.
Well worth it- the bike's sooo much fun!!

Anyone tried to bump-start one of these *******s? If you haven't, don't bother - I nearly killed myself with the effort.
The one time my battery died close to home I ended up pushing her about a mile rather than leave her to be collected by the local pikies. That nearly killed me as well.......

Weeksy I went through the same problem when I bought my 04, the dealer gave me a new battery ( cheap one ) and this didn't improve matters. They just can't supply the current to spin a big v twin, the TL1000 was heavy on batteries as well . So I replaced it with a bigger Yuasa as used on the mille, YT15 I think and things have been fine for the last year , touch wood. I have also cut out the brown plug as mine was discoloured(and for peace of mind). If I have to take the engine out cutting 5 wires is the least of my worries.
When something rides as well as this you can forgive a few problems.

Mine has been sweet as a nut since the battery and relay went in. Also did the capacitor mod to stop the clock reset. :)

I'm happy.
