Is it Really an RSV-R ?

this v5 issue came up in MCN a couple of years ago due to insurance companies refusing to pay out due to the bike docs not matching the insurance details.

seems DVLA got it wrong on many owners details. i would get it changed if i were you.

The original R had a stronger oil tank becuase it was originally envisaged as a track bike that was road legal. for that reason the tank had to be durable to survive being thrown down the track. The standard model was thinner guage metal and not stainless from memory.

Think from 01 they dropped the R tank and made them all the same along with a full subframe for passenger duties.

spoonz what should my edwards say then?

It says rsvr on the log book and I presumed it was correct as really that is all it is but with a few more goodies, but on the same score isnt a rsvr just an rsv with a few more goodies?

Mine doesn't say anthing under model number !!! just Aprilia I've checked frame number and its a Real RSVR , rang DVLC told me not to bother returning V5 everthing is ok
weird
Rawly

An edwards is an R essentially so that should be ok i hope.

Your insurance details are most important. Make sure you insure it as the correct version. don't insure an rsv as an Rsvr and vice versa regardless of what your dvla doc says.

The small print on the insurance docs states if you mis represent the model when applying for insurance then they have the right to refuse cover as it breaks the contract terms.

To be absolutely honest I don't really care what mine is. R, Mille, Edwards (Wishful thinking) whatever.

I think I will send a letter or email to Aprilia asking for full clarification of what exactly my bike is but this is being done for insurance classification only.

As Spoonz said if you incorrectly advise your insurer of your bikes specification then they will not pay out any claims submitted. I know this for a fact as I am an insurance claims manager.

Anyone know of a way to breakdown the chassis number so you can tell what it is, where it's from etc....?

but the insurance companys don't know what an edwards is, hence mine is insured as an rsvr.

Am I invalidating my policy? At the end of the day its only a different paint job and mine is going to get resprayed plain back soon anyway

try this & see if it works for you, it is supposed to decode the vin:dunno:thumbup

Gaz, don't worry too much about it not being recognised by your insurance company. The only time they can invalidate your insurance and deny claims is when you have blatantly concealed the vehicles true identity to obtain insurance cover. (Which I hope you haven't?)

A bit like telling them you have a RS125 but really it's an RSV 'R', that would be deemed as fraudulent. I think Spoonz mentioned earlier that the Edwards was just an RSV 'R' with a different paint scheme, not really something that an insurance company will bother about to be honest.

rsvmille, thanks for that link, all it showed was that mine was an 01 model destined for Europe and made in Italy. Was after model specs really, so I did a HPI check and it comes back as an RSV 'R' but as we all know what it says it is on DVLA's database and what it actually is can be miles apart.

On mine it said it couldn't even match my vin & said it was a 1998 model Aprilia 1000cc.:dunno
