Is it Really an RSV-R ?

mine works too, but I don't dare stop it without having my optimate or set of jump leads about

Mine has it's problems too but when your riding it like you've nicked it and the bike says 'Faster' you secretly know you made the right choice.

At the end of the day it could be worse, you could be a rich ******* who paid £100K for a Ferrari and only sees it once every blue moon, that's when the Ferrari garage allows visitation rights. LOL

Who cares if it's a monster, ask yourself some basic questions.

1. Do you love the sound of it? - Yes , even better when I change the pipe over
2.Do you love riding it? - Yes , more rewarding than the R1
3. Do you think it looks awesome? - From certain angles
4. Has it let you down yet? - Nope

If your answers are yes to questions 1, 2 and 3 then continue starting it, riding it and admiring it.:inlove

If you said no to number 4 then your a lucky bugger and should stop moaning and carry on doing 1, 2 and 3.:doug

:doug

You are right I thought about it last night then did something i've never down before , went for a midnight ride - something I would never contemplate on the R1.
and yes so what if s not a "Factory" in fact its a little bit better than an RSV and a little bit worse than an RSVR, all it means is that I have a good baseline for fettling !!!

Cheers guys for getting me out of the "down in the dumps"...oh and I rode it like I stole it this morning....got to work knackered but happy

Good on you Kiwi :D :thumbup

Still think you should make that dealer squirm a touch, even if it is just for your own personal amusement :devious

already in motion....my mate's a copper and his missus works for trading standards, bloke over the road works for what was custom's & excise :doug:thumbup

get a few quid out of him and spend it on frank. (frankienstien)

My bikes called multey by the way ( he's dog rough)

Well as said, if it rides nice and yer happy then at least you got an RSV with some quality
extras. I would put some heat on the dealer for some return cash too you also..
Good luck with it all..but mostly, enjoy yer Ape matey :thumbup

I thought they all came with Steering dampers?
The R's just used Ohlins, suspension front and rear, damper and Oz wheels.

mine a RSV mille 99 tricolor with steering damper standard.

I thought that too as my mille has a damper:confused

If you are going to torch it can i swap the forks 1st:devious:devious:pirate

must admit tho that i would be well peed off with the dealer if he sold it to me as an 'R'. I'd be straight down there talking to him about full refunds & trading standards:angry

Mine works
Mine too:doug

Just looked on my V5 registration document and mine says it's an RSV R.

Few!!!!

Mine had no steering damper when I bought it, apparently it was optional on 2002 models.

What does your V5 say?

I'm a bit confused now Amb, you think your blue one is an RSVR too? :dunno

The 02 RSV i have definately did not come with a steering dampener std. I saw the bike on the showroom floor brand spanka new when my mate bought it.
Only RSV-Rz came with them std. as far as i knew. :dunno

I thought amb's bike was a mille too!!
But then that doesn't say much:roll

So in all practicable purposes.....
what is the difference between RSV's and R's

RSV's Showa suspension.
RSVR's Ohlins suspension.
Ohlin's damper, if the standard RSV came with a damper.
Some RSVR's year model's had a closer ratio gearbox?
RSVR's come with same carbon cosmetic's.
Colour sceam"s

Same motor, brakes and chassis.

In 2000 the R has

Ohlins Steering damper.
Stainless oil tank (required for race regs)
plastic tank
Ohlins shock /forks
Carbon mudguard/hugger/infills/dash cover
Oz Wheels
smaller subframe
1 colour - Black

engine and gearboxes are the same between R and non R

In 2001 they got Carbon ears on the R and yellow was a colour option.

there has never been an R model in any other colours from the factory at least.

That clears up a few things

The Stainless oil tank..... what was standard?
Forgot about the plastic tank.
The smaller subframe..? the one supporting the seat assy?
