bled my clutch for the first time this weekend. very small buble at master cyclinder end. had been a git to find neutral had to go to second and tap down. road it yesterday and what a difference, finds neutral easy from first. still a bit jumpy going into first from neutral but much better.:thumbup

A little more detail...

This mod makes a MASSIVE difference!!!

But, despite reading the posts, it's not completely clear. So here are a couple of notes from my experience.

I removed the side panel (gearshift side) and undid a couple of (wrong) bolts before finding the right one! It's the big one directly above the round oilpump.

I removed it and oil came out (probably because I did this on the side stand). It eventually stopped and I presume this is not a problem.

Deep inside the hole is the tiny jet. On the back of the jet is a single groove for a flat screwdriver. It's important to get the right size screwdriver (just under the width of the hole) otherwise it could round off the jet (which is thin brass) and this could be a frikin nightmare!

Unscrew the jet. Once undone, it stays in the hole! So I used made a hook shape of a tiny strand of wire, put it past the jet, turned an pulled out gently to get it out.

Then carefully (don't cross the threat!) screwed the new jet in.

There's a washer on the bolt, which might be washed away by the oil. Find it and make sure it's back in there when you screw the bolt back in.

Whack the side cover on, and bob's your uncle. Your gearchanging will now feel like you're on a completely different bike!!!

i can't get mine out - tried without killing it....
what is wrong with people and tightening things....
do they no realise that oil pressure increases torque and thus means that you donr need to use stupid ammount of force.....
had this problem now with a few things.......
so has anyone got any suggestions of how to get the old jet out????
if i snap the screw head will it affect the current jet

Have you tried to remove it after warming up the engine?

Go out for a 10 mile ride, come back and let it stand for 10 mins so the heat can soak back into the casings.

You'll be amazed at the difference it can make.

Failing that you can take your bike to your local engineering shop who can use an extractor bit to remove the old jet.

It's the one thing (well apart from the chronic rear brake) on the RSV that I've hated from day 1. Really looking forward to receiving the parts.

"parts" meaning I also ordered the rear brake master cylinder cover which I'm hoping is the fundamental cause for the brake being useless.

Like the others, I will report back once fitted.

For those of you asking for clarification about this mod I have attached a photo of the bolt that needs to be removed to change the jet and also a photo of the jet itself which is quite small. The bolt can be seen just above the oil filter cover. I have just done the mod myself and found that a 4mm flat bladed screwdriver was just right for unscrewing the jet. It took me about 20 mins from start to finish. As has been said before a small amount of oil will drip out of the hole for a while (make sure that the bike is upright on paddock stand or similar). I removed the jet having unscrewed it by inserting a thin piece of fuse wire through the hole in the centre of the jet and hooking it out. I haven't had a chance to test ride the bike since but selecting neutral with the bike ticking over seemed much easier.

does any one know if the jet 40 will fit an '00 mille??? the one my mille said its a 75, would like to follow along and try this as well.

Well I ordered my bits from Aprilia Yorkshire on the 1st October and still no sign. Called them on 17/10 and they said they'd been ordered and would be sent out when they arrived.

Didn't realise they used illegal immigrants to bring the goods over from Italy. Does anyone know if I have to go to Sangate to collect my Jet as I could have hitch-hiked to the Aprilia factory by now and got the parts myself.

I ordered two parts from Yorkshire Aprilia a couple of months ago. I rang after a couple of weeks to be told one of the parts was in stock the other was on order but expected soon. After 8 weeks I told them to send me the part that was in stock and not to bother with the other part which was still out of stock. They had already taken payment on receipt of order so I ended up paying about £17 for the clutch jet, about £6 of which was for postage (actual cost was less than £1). I think I would still be waiting now if I hadn't contacted them. At the very least I think that they could send an email to advise when parts are not in stock.

In future I think I'll order parts from my local dealer - at least I'll know then if there will be a wait involved.

They are used in carbs aswell.

Shall order in the jet and get it done, clutch has only had problems selecting neutral since I had a heavy duty Barnett kit put in, now it must be done before coming to a stop!!
