Help! - Having a great day yesterday at Cadwell on the 'open pit lane track day, went out for a last blast at 4:15, half way round second lap bike went into limp mode. Chugged back to pits with warning triangle and EFI lit up. Quickly ckecked battery connections, all fuses and all connections I could see under tank - no joy. Decided to get out of circuit and phone recovery, bike died just before entrance, would not resart. Pushed bike through gates and called recovery. Got home just before 10 last night, so not had chance to look at it again yet.
Anyone got any ideas??????:confused
Bike is an 06 Factory

What happens (exactly) when you try to start it ?

Yesterday, when it died, tried to restart - just a click, no engine turnover, just started to piss it down so gave up at that and called recovery.
Just been in garage and tried it, whirring as normal, followed by engine turning over but not firing! VBat on dash reads 11.9. Put it on Optimate, up to yellow light but not green. I think it's on original battery, do you think it's f-cked?:confused

I would say that you need to replace the battery and the starter solenoid,
The dash battery meter can be out but as much as half a volt, but its the current you need, the battery can show good volts but have no current.

My money would be on the battery giving up the ghost, if you don't have a 100 or 150 amp solenoid it would be worth fitting one, £27 from Wemoto, and fit a YTZ14S-BS battery for better cranking power:thumbup

Was all set to fork out for battery & solenoid, then spoke to Griff! :confused He hasn't examined bike yet, but seems to think if battery is turning over engine, then battery is probably OK! :(Griff is due to have a look Monday evening. Bike's been on Optimate for 24 hrs, dash now reads 12.2v, turns over but doesn't fire. Only tried it once though as I don't want to cause further damage!

Right, Griff came up to pick the bike up a couple of weeks ago. Small 15amp fuse under right hand side carbon cover blown. Bike started but only on 1 cylinder! Griff took bike away, called me next day, had coil off, tested it, put it back on, started on both cylinders, seemed sorted! Picked up bike and rode 60 miles home, bike misfiring at low revs! Rode it back to Griffs a few days later, misfire getting worse. :banghead Griff diagnosed faulty coil, you could hear it arcing inside. Griff has never known a coil fail on 04+ bike - dodgy Italian electrics I hear you say? The fecking coil's a Bosch (German *****) item, I've had 2 Bosch dishwashers let go while nearly new! :argh Anyway, Griff advised picking up a secondhand one off Ebay - £25 instead of £150+ new. :) Had a nightmare ride home, misfire getting worse, cut out completely twice, had to keep it over 4k revs in traffic, coughing and spluttering like a 60 a day kangeroo! :mad1 Well coil arrived today, I fitted it in 40 mins, bike fired up straight away, shot out to fill her up - all seems great:doug It's raining here so i'll give it a proper blast tommorow but it's looking good. :roost

Glad you got it fixed mate, think yerself lucky it's not a Futura, they have 4 coils and are £80 a shot, i just replaced all 4 on my Futura as i was having a nightmare with bad coils, i found a set of Renault ones at £44 for the set and modded them to fit, done 2000 miles since and they work a treat:thumbup

Bit off topic I guess but, is there a definitive thread on here of parts like the Yamaha solenoid, Renault coils etc so we can build a d/base of alternative spares for use on various models?

Good idea Ian, maybe drop a PM to Spoonz and ask him to create a sticky thread for these items to be added to:thumbup

Used the bike for work yesterday, to make sure all is well - running sweet:inlove Took her up to 169mph (yeh officer, private road of course) with textiles and rucksack on, 15/42 gearing.:devious
Big up to griff for help and advice.:thumbup
