After my post on a thread yesterday referring to how much kit you need in this country in order to ride most of the year,

I thought it would be useful for people to post details of kit they recommend - reviews I suppose of good kit.

I love buying new kit me, and always look for reviews of kit before I try & buy.

So for me to start:

RST Ventilator II Jacket

http://www.rst-moto.com/index.php/products-details/moto_rst_ventilator_ii_textile_jacket/

ventilator-jacket-2.jpg

Bought it last year as I was boiling up on my short ride to work.

Has two removable linings:

  • thermal lining
  • waterproof lining

Without either lining nice & cool as its a mesh design, but has CE back, shoulder & elbow protection.

With just waterproof lining, still pretty cool but obviously fully waterproof.

Both linings in (as they are at the moment) cosy & waterproof.

Two front pockets & one internal.

Can't fault it really. The only thing I will say is that with both linings in it is quite bulky, but I suppose that the idea.

Oh and also although I'm only 5'8" and 12.5 stone I had to buy an XL. I've mentioned before about bike sizes being weird.

Its approx £130.

ah'm no a big kit man,,,,,
got an old rst jaicket, had for aboot 5 years, was wearing it when a totalled the factory millie, still gaun strong, oxstar boots, worn in the same crash (as comfy as yer favourite baffies)

Fair enough Seany. I've got a pair of Oxtar boots as well and yes they are v comfy I've had them for years.

Next bit of kit.

Kriega R25 Rucksack

Superb rucksack. Ridiculously rugged, feels like its going to last forever.

Really easy to get on due to quadlock system, plenty big enough. Large main compartment with zipped smaller pocket inside for valuables. Smaller zipped outside section.

Fully waterproof.

Only downside - price. Not exactly cheap at about £90.

can vouch for the US 20 tailpack as well. have used it every day for the last 9 months and it has yet to let in a drop of water.

i have , addidas base layer top and bottoms.
RST rift two peice leathers.
tog 24 cammo rain jkt.
reggata wind and waterproof fleece.
alpinestars drystar gloves.
alpinestars s-mot octane gloves.

sidi vertibra boots.
AGV k4 vyrus helmet.
camel pack.

Brill - was thinking of one of those as I'm so impressed with the rucksack. Can't stop buying kit me :)

Hmm,I've had a fair bit of kit over the years.At the moment I'm using;
Furygan Houston leather jacket. Now obsolete,I payed £150 at the NEC show two years ago,....bargain!:thumbupRetro style black with white stripe,...lovely.
Furygan Vulcane leather strides.Another bargain,£40 from ebay.Zips onto me jacket.
Oxtar WP boots, again,an ebay purchasement. They had been worn twice and were like new.
Frank Thomas gloves. Not usually a FT fan,but they are the only ones that fit my weird shaped hands.Had some RST gloves that fell apart the second time I used them.:thumbdown
Shoei Ex-Spirit helmet.I have 3 shoei's and this one is the best bar none.Fit and finish are superb.
I also have a Joe Rocket one peice suit and matching gloves. The suit is a bit big for me after losing loads of weight.:yes

I like the look of the furygan stuff.

Any other recommendations for winter gloves? Have a pair of Alpinestars **** tex that have seen better days, but they are now about £120.

Another vote for Kreiga kit here - got a US20 tailpack and it a cracking piece of kit, proper quality, Plan to get two US10s to go with it to give me 40l capacity and a wider base to rest my dry bag on.

I've read other reviews of US20 which the two of you have backed up - love the Kriega stuff will have to invest in a US20 at some point.

My recommendations pt 3:

AGV S4-SV Naked

Great looking lid (imo of course!). Comfy. Pretty quiet & light. Integral sun visor. Quite cheap.

However - the sun visor switch is very small & fiddly. Also the visor fogs up really easily and to get a pinlock fitted visor is about £50.

In summary the AGV looks great but my Shoei Hornet is more comfortable and the pinlock visor is the dogs danglies.

About £190.

I've had my AlpineStars goretex winter gloves for about 6 years now, the outer thumb seams are starting to let go but they're still 100% waterproof. Fingertips get cold in the winter though.

Summer gloves are Hein Gericke kangaroo skin - lovely and comfy.

I have some Oxtar goretex boots that are also years old and still 100% waterproof too - I wear them all year round as I find them cool enough in the summer.

Hein Gericke Tricky 3 goretex textile suit - you guessed it, 100% waterproof (but a bit big round the cuffs)

Lookwell 2 piece leather suit - superb

Arai Astro R lid with road legal tint visor and Fogcity insert

+1 for Kriega US20 and US10's

SParky - ditto! Great gloves also get the fingertip thing & prob had them as long as you have. But feck me they ain't cheap now!!

The best bit of kit I have (when its a bit nippy) is a Foska cycling jacket.
It fits under my leather jacket & keeps me cozy & warm without getting too sweaty.
Its long enough to tuck into my strides to keep those drafts out.
Its the black one with the high viz skeleton pattern & looks the biz.

worst helmet,,,,,,,,,simpson,,,,i bough wan a couple o years ago, as they look cool as the coolest thing a could think o,,,waited on it fir weeks,,,, finally arrived,,,,,got 5 miles wi the hoor on and back hame, due to the air blowin in ma eyes,,,,,waste o ****** money,,,,

Who the feck wears STRIDES on their machine.

Are the bottoms tucked into yer socks and let me guess ye've got effin brown brogues on yer feet ???

O, yer a fud.

again its the wee things somtimes...

...ma Buff thermel neck warmer got as Crimbo pressie frae the youngest a whiley back. Been excellent fur keepin the wind oot awe winter..

...or PINLOCK inserts, top invention...

...or the handfu o freebie V-Wipe visor cleaners lifted frae the fuzz stall at the show last year. Jist the boy fur gittin rid o they midges mid ride oan a summer tootle oot an aboot. An they fit in yer pocket tae.

Oh yeah - V wipes, brilliant piece of kit, work superbly. Not paid for any yet, either got them free with mags or got them from the police stand at the NEC show.
