Hi Guys, run up to Fort William with mates over weekend, bike started no probs leaving and all day. Left over Saturday night, tried to start Sunday (coldish) morning, almost flat battery? Fortunate to be staying on quite a steep hill, so managed to bump start in 3rd at same time on starter button. Fires up, and runs all day, starts first time at fill ups !!! Back home showing 13.7 volts when running at idle just over 14v. 04 plate 1st gen ?? Any idea's? Motobatt fitted. :banghead:banghead

Any extra accessories,...alarm,...heated grips?
Sounds like there is either something draining the battery or a poor connection somewhere. The earth/return/negative connections on the frame are always a good starting point.

c, don't think yer should use the starter anall when yer bumpin it.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replys. Keith B, spot on... my mate says check by disconnecting the neg termal and connect meter between neg battery and neg connector, switch meter to amps (20) and see if you get a reading. 1.9 amps, culprit was bad earth as Keith says... many thanks. Read out on clocks showed 12.4v, now clock shows 13.7v. Meter reads 14v.

If any of you guys are tempted to come up here, if its the last thing you do... make the effort. Roads to Skye or Mallaig are like a MotoGP circuit, unbelievable... Anything above Perth and Stirling, no polis, but stick to 30's and 40's because villages will be where you get caught. The touristy bits are just that, nice scenery and roads but tooooo much traffic.

If thats too far try the Borders B6357 to Newcastleton, new road surface, either from east to west or reverse... you will not be disappointed. The Mags dont cover the real roads, A7 or Moffat road. All great, very rarely polis around on these two... but again scenic routes with traffic. If you are thinking of coming up, leave a message on forum or email me on [email protected] and I'll give you best roads. :cheers

Mucker, there are a few of us goin to be based in fort bill on the 7-8th Sept.

Yer more than welcome tae join us.

Gimee a nod and al pm yer details,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,don't chicken oot ya Fud. :thumbup

Hi Aldo,

Canny make this one Aldo, doin track day on 14th Sept at Knockhill, 21/22nd is oor club run up to Inveraray, 39 on this over night stop at Loch Fyne Hotel.

If yer goin up tae fort bill, turn off at Tyndrum onto A85 and head for Oban, then take A828 over the bridge then back onto the A82 to fort bill.......If you've no done it before, its magic.... if yer goin through Glencoe, then expect heavy traffic and watch oot fir polis hiding behind bushes, which is after the really long uphill left sweeper.... jist keep a keen eye!! After that its great road spoiled with tourists and walkers :cheers

Cheers c, it's all gonae be weather dependent on whit routes we'll use on the way up to fort bill, I'm wanting to take them on the Kinlochleven road.

Some of us fuds from here did the Newcastleton road a few weeks ago, must just have been resurfaced it had loads of loose chips everywhere but a cracker of a road nonetheless. :thumbup

Hi Aldo, Another great road, bit short tho.... but another classic :thumbup you obviously know yer way aboot... Another is up to Ullapool...absolutely superb, if you have RSV4, (auld twins are flat oot every where, well a wiz. mate had a blade and was pushin him every where, but top end he pulled on me until the corners :bawling) then you'll no be doing less than 150 on sweepers, kid you not, similar to Skye road, the dogs....:thumbup Enjoy yer run up and doon an 7/8th :cheers

Cheers c, yer sound like a bit of a nutter on yer machine :yes afraid this owld codger runs at a more sedate pace, if it ain't wet me and ma mucker regularly do 300/400 mile days on the west coast roads. :thumbup

Hi Aldo,

Lol, lol, lol, am an auld codger tae mate, 56 next birthday.... but dinny want to be in a wooden box too soon. Like a thrash, but gotta be sensible, nae stupid overtakes, blind corners, on coming traffic and awe that crap. Up north, you can see for miles cause nae trees on some stretches, hence the higher speeds. Yes enjoy, be quick if poss, dinny be daft tho... Now dinny get oot as much as would like due to business commitments. If yer lads want tae meet up, let me know. Check oot our web site bonnyriggmcc.co.uk or any lads who want to come up here, just let me know and will help as much as poss. :cheers

Hi c, a wiz oot on a FudFest ower the weekend. We met a Dumfries and the route wiz goin tae follow the coast road into Newton Stewart then up through the Galloway forest to Straiton and into Ayr fir the first night.

All did not go to plan because the 2 hour wait fir everyone to show resulted in the pishing rain descending over the whole area so plan B up the 76 and into Ayr wiz chosen. :no

Day two resulted in us splitting up on the way to the Erskine Bridge but regrouping at Dumbarton shell station, then up Loch Lomond and over the Haul Road to Faslane then yon wee nadgery road into Arrochar where a couple of fuds left us for their jaunt doon tae the borders.

First bit of dry road from Arrochar to Inveraray then another spilt in the ranks had 5 of us making progress in what I can only describe as a monsoon to Lochgilphead, just as we got there one of us decided to try grass tracking (he wiz ok and his bike wiznae to bad). By the time we gathered ourselves and regrouped it was decided it wiz everyone fir themselves on the road to Oban, roon the coast to Ballachulish and into Fort Bill fir the night, I reckon there must have been at least an inch of water
in ma boots and it felt like I'd pished masel repeatedly.

Sunday on the other hand wiz fookin brill, sun in the sky and dry roads so off we headed fir Applecross. :thumbup

The road from Invergarry to Kyle of Lochalsh has always been one of my favorites and on Sunday it didnae disappoint. :roost

Same age anall mucker.

Hi Aldo,

Feck, pity... all great roads but weather plays a huge part in the weekend. Glad tae hear the lad wiz fine... sounds like he wiz in wrong gear.... keep tellin them, drop doon a gear or two to ride round the bend, no feckin free wheelin.. mates awe moan aboot me no braking tae show brake lights, use the the throb between yer legs tae brake.
Oor next run up tae Inveraray 21/22nd September, head fir Callander, Tyndrum, Oban, doon tae Lochgilphead and back up tae Inveraray. For us aboot 190 miles. Last club run of the year. Hopefully, catch up soon or maybe meet up next year.
Got reverse track day at Knockhill this weekend, should be a laugh, no done it that way round.... :cheers

Hope it stays dry fir Knockhill and yer run on the 21/22nd mucker. :yes

I've kind of had enough wae goin oot in the wet,,,,,,,,,,,,well fir at least a week or two, it'll give me a chance to defumigate ma boots and clean my machine.

Here's a wee pic of 3 of oor machines in Glencoe on the way home on Monday. I'll pm yer next time I know am going oot mucker. :thumbup
