Hello Folks,
Greetings from germany. My 2000 RSV1000R ME won't start when cold.
I read everything about starters, solenoids, batteries, cables, choke/coldstart lever, etc.
Tank is full of fresh fuel, pump is priming, battery voltage and cranking speed is sufficient, sparkplugs are new, but the bike wont fire when cold.
Once it is hot it runs and starts fine. Drove it yesterday after 10-30sec of trying to start.
This morning it cranks until the battery and another big battery is empty. No firing except for 2 explosions within 10 min of testing. It seemed flooded.
I smell the fuel and see the air pumping out the exhaust. Changing of sparkplugs didnt improve the situation.
Only things i can think of and will test next is leakage between throttlebody and engine, checking spark and using starter spray.
3 weeks ago it seemed to be ok, the cold start issues havent been that severe 3 weeks ago and i figured its just italian engineering fidelity.
But now its obviously wrong.
Are there other problems you heard of? TPS sensors failing etc.? I doubt sensors failing because once it fired up everything is fine, especially when operating temperature is high. I never had a bike firing up that bad, even big throttle carburators and kickstart bikes i had never had such big problems firing up cold.
Hope you can help me here,
regards, millemer
Further information on my bike:
Removed fairing and instruments and installed Yamaha MT03 headlight
changed wiring - only relevant change in engine wiring are repositioned relais/solenids under the seat (~+3-4m of additional wires)
had to change wiring because no space in front with MT03 headlight
That one ecu cable that activates the richer fuel map is cut
original muffler is installed
