Hi all. I have a 2002 mille. Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesnt. Its been serviced by the local aprilia chappie recently. I have tried two new bateries, the latest of which is a motobatt 16ah. I have disconnected all aftermarket electrical goodies. I have a new higher rated genuine solenoid fitted. I cleaned the lead from the solenoid to the starter motor. I ran in a new additional thicker cable from the battery neg to the starter motor direct, thought this cured it actually but now the problem has come back. I always use the cold start lever.
I hired a van to take it to the local shop and guess what, it bloody started first time for him.

I thought it was only happening whe it was really cold, like zero or so, but this time its about 8degc outside. Oh, and its always kept on an optimate in a garage too. Honestly, most unreliable bike ive ever had, and ive had old brit bikes too.

It has an akro louder end can and power commander fitted.

This is my second mille and fourth rsv, i do like them but this is trying my patience now as I'm having to ride my factory to work through all this winters crappy roads. My first mille didnt have this problem, but didnt have the can and pc either.

So, questions are, any clues as to why its being a bloody pain?

Would it run ok without the power commander with the end can on as I'm wondering if its the pc.

Are ktm rc8s more reliable than this?

Are ktm r8's more reliable, I dont know but would love to find out!

Before throwing more parts at it, bypass the pc3 and see if that makes a difference. Then maybe change plugs incase one is fouled? I also rewired mine with all new modern connectors and also got new power/neg power leads from motosomethi g (cant remember name but worth the money). After that: yamaha solenoid, a mosfet regulator, ricks stator, the biggest shori lithium battery that fits and keep it warmed and charged. Mine now starts.... except when it doesnt.
