Well mine is an 03 with changed gearing - 1 down front 2 up back (16/44).

Always get 120+ to a tank. Yesterday filled up as I had done 130 miles but the light wasn't even on. Some of those 130 were boring duals but rest was blasting down from north Wales & mid Wales.

Petrol light comes on, I fill up as soon as possible and I can assure you that £15 worth is absolutely the most I can get in there and not a drop more. If I'm quick, it's sometimes only £13!

How much is supposedly reserved for..er...reserve?

I have heard it said before (on other bikes admittedly) that if you sit on the bike so it's upright and brim it...then wait for a minute or two....that the fuel settles down into the system and you can then get more in. Never tried the theory mind you.

Could this suggest a problem with my fuel sensor maybe? Though Dan is getting the same consumption probs and when he rode on for another 10 miles...he ran out of fuel! (see post above).

To clarify you get (well I got) about 21 miles out of the reserve, when I ran out of fuel it said 21 miles IIRC.

Often have my reserve light come on in early 60's and the best early 90's (i must have been out with my mate on his blade...yawn).

I just put it down to not riding conservatively, im sure if I did 70-80 everywhere I would do alot better.

Mister I can get near on £20 in my tank when the fuel light comes on. I don't think the fuel light is the most accurate sensor on the bike tbh.

No offence taken Rico! But as I said before I'm new to Tuono territory.

I've just sold my beloved 1200cc Buell Firebolt to buy the Tuono, another big V-twin, similar tank size, bigger cc and I was getting 100 miles out of that! That had a Harley engine for gods sake, you can't get much more agricultural (and so you'd think LESS efficient) than that!!

soonds like yer fuel sensor is on the nippy side an possibly kickin in early richt enough, can be random things sometimes.

My daily commute of 13 miles each way allows me to open it up along 2 x 1 mile straight stretches where I can get up to and cruise at 90 or 100 (allbeit for a very short time!) without too much worry, but other than that it's all 50 - 60mph slog, so it's not like I'm really suckin' juice on a mad 'un!! So having to fill up every 3rd day is a bit of a chore!

What am i doing wrong?!?!?

I have once got over 100 miles to a tank and that was a motorway run with a little drag strip play in.

I usually get 80-90 before fuel light :O

Am I just riding exceptionally hard? h,mmm

Smoff.
My bike is a 59 plate Black Dream colours Factory.
I have a Renegade hi-flo airfilter system, and Aprilia Ti Race cans, it is on Map 2.
I get about 70 miles to the fuel light at Cadwell Park on a Trackday, usually about 100 if road riding, and toodling around spain with my wife anything upto 125.
I actually ran out last Thursday (100 yds from petrol station) at 148 miles.

I suspect Dan's fuel consumption is directly linked to his right wrist. :)

As others have said the speedo sensors are on the rear disk bolts, so sprocket sizes do not effect the speedo.

The Tank - did take over 17 litres once I coasted pushed it to the pump.
Mine usually takes about £15 when I top up, but I can get about 30 miles with the light on.

I ran out because I left my wallet at home, got to petrol station, realised, nipped back for wallet and didn't quite make it to the pumps. :)

Having literally just fitted one of these carbon mounting plate and PiperCross airfilter jobbies so cant really comment just yet on MPG. However I have noticed that the RPM has dropped about 300-400rpm for a given speed which tells me the engine isn,t having to work so hard to suck the air thru. ie spinning more freely thus less efort required = less fuel burnt.

Now then, I can't figure your comment out. The engine RPM is directly / mechanically linked to the road speed of the bike and is not altered by the amount of fuel used.
It must be some clever bit of kit that can alter fixed gearing.

the revs CAN'T DROP for a given speed, the wheel is connected to the engine by the chain and gearbox, these ratio's are fixed, 100mph = X number of revs no matter what you have done to the air filter

oh yea just to point out i have also fitted the piper cross air filter and my tank range has dropped from 85miles to reserve light to 75 miles, i think i must be addicted to the BBBBBBWWWWWWAAAAAARRRRRRRPPPPPP coming from under the tank, i have noticed that my mates seem to have started to ride slower and the corners seem to be approaching me alot quicker......strange

Hey gents, I run a 2006 with map 2 ,twin Remus chimneys, k+n filter and 15/42 gearing.Your consumption figures are about right for mine 85 when driven hard and 100/110 normal scooting about.
On a recent run from Fife down through the borders to the Hartside cafe i brimmed it at the start and there was about 20 of us with a guy up front who sits 60 /70 all the way .When i stopped just over the border for a refill i worked out my thirst and about passed out on the forecourt, 50.5mpg. I think that will be a rarity though as every one drove with their slippers on!

Hey Rico, whats the "carbon mounting plate" you mentioned? have heard mention of them in a few threads and haven`t found out what they are yet. Please tell! :yes

BTW gen 2 akras, 15t front, gets about 100-110 to the light. good fun tho!
