Just read the whole thread and I'm pleased to see every one who stuck with you has helped you make your mind up pikeman, I stayed away as it seemed like I was giving bad advise. I have done over 40 thousand miles on a 2003 Tuono and I know you won't be disappointed, as said before post a picture of yourself and the bike when you've got it.

To ride, the biggest differences you will feel with a stock Gen 1 vs a stock Gen 2 are the engine as covered above, and the "feel"
The Gen 1 feels taller, you sit "on" it with the Gen 2 you sit "in" it, hence it feels more like a Jap to ride compared to a Gen 1. I think the seat heights are actually about the same, but it's how they feel.
The power delivery difference is all down to the exhaust the 2-1 strangles the Gen1 from 5-6k, the bigger valves and intakes on the gen 2 give it more top end, but on the road it isn't really a huge difference.

If I had the cash and came across a mint 03 Racing with all the extra bits I would have one as well.
I would have kept my old bike if i could have persuaded Mrs Fastard, but she thought 3 Tuono's to be taking the piss.
Would I sell the 09 for an earlier model, probably not, since I changed I have grown to like the new bike.
Still thinking about doing the frame/swingarm & wheels black though
