2004 tuono rear brake came on and locked up on its own?

Hi all, I just bought my 2004 tuono. And was riding today sat at 60 (behind a police car so didn’t overtake) and the back brake came on hard and locked up I hadn’t even pressed it. Luckily enough I wasn’t cornering or going at speed. what could cause this to happen?

I slightly binding brake could eventually heat up enough to lock the brake , but I wouldn’t have thought it could happen suddenly Have you made any inroad into the problem?
