it shouldn't make a massive difference on fuel i don't reckon as you need a fixed amount of fuel (and air) to give the energy needed to go 100mph. if that amount of fuel comes at 3500 rpm or 7000 rpm it shouldn't be double the fuel. yes there will be additional pumping and frictional losses at 7000 rpm, but i can't see it making a huge difference. only time will tell i guess and i'll check it out after i get the chance to rack up some miles.

I used the same chain as it has less than 3000 miles on it (and I don't own a chain-breaker :) ).
I haven't noticed it being particularly flighty now, but it is easier to ride in town now, which was the point of the excersise (sic)

Anyway, where am I going to need to do 180? :p

Didnt seem to make any difference, still getting 130 before the light comes on.:pirate

I don't get anywhere near that, (maybe around 95) but I do have a big lump (my son) on the back 99% of the time..

I get 85 before light starts to flicker and maybe 90 if i take it steady before on solid. Don't believe I've ever got above 100 between fill-ups. :puke

Took lad to 'Beamish' today on the bike, and went via the A1 there, so a nice steadyish cruise, but took some twisties on the way back..Around 200 miles and put £24 in fuel, though lights not on yet..

Must get meself a 24litre fuel tank, funny yours doesnt look non-standard :thumbup

I just bought a new set 16/42 gold x ring on my 2000 RSVR, standard was 17/42, now 100 mph is just over 6000 rpm. Gonna change the back to a 44 though, anyone got this gearing? and can anyone tell me is 17/42 standard on a 2000 RSVR??

17/42 is standard and loads of peeps have 16/44 combo, very popular, i run 15/43 on the road

Now you're being silly...You wouldn't do that, it'd spoil the lines of the bike..Actually strap a 20 litre drum of fuel to lads back..Can't hear him moan with the helmet on.

cheers Badger, will I need to remove a link or two on the chain, or is there enough adjustment available?

If your chain is new it should be fine as standard 108 links if your model is pre 04:thumbup

Just be aware that running the 15 front make the chain wear down the top chain slider quicker as it gets pulled down onto it more from the smaller diameter sprocket .

i`ve just ordered a 15t front. I`ve already gone to 42 on the rear and find it good, but still find it hard to get to the power (past 7000rpm ) at semi-legal speeds.

Is the bike going to be a revvy wheelie monster with 15-42 gearing?
