Have been ill and not even been able to get out to start my mille for some time finally got out to try and give her a turn over to find the battery flat , my fault totally but when i recharged the battery the odometer had returned to factory settings and the mileage had returned to 0, I had done 8900 miles and my 1 st mot is now coming up which is gonna look really great when i eventually come to sell the bike in the future, does anyone know how i can get the correct mileage back on the odometer ???:O

No expert but somehow I doubt that you will be able to. I've read other threads talking of the dash resetting itself, don't recall any way to undo that.

Hi there, I'd love to see the MOT tester's face when he writes that one down. No way of sorting this out mate, it is a known problem on early '03/'04 models....Mine shows 3,000 miles but real score is 6,000 as my clocks zero'd when the ECU went faulty (since been replaced).......!

does this only effect the 03/04's? my 01 has a very very low mileage - 5,700 which seems almost too low for a 6/7 year old bike

I think i read a post somewhere it did effect older models, they had a fix where a small capacitor was soldered in the dash

oh well, never want to sell it anyway ! dont know how to explain this one to the mot teter ????

The 04s had a known problem with dash where the Odometer would reset to zero if the battery was dead or disconnected for any amount of time. The only fix (to prevent a second reset) was to have the local shop replace the dash under warranty (or buy the damn thing yourself, which sux). But there is no way to recover the mileage that was originally logged.

I believe with the 05+ bikes the problem was resolved but unfortunately you have a LOT of 04s running around with mileage numbers that aren't even close to accurate. Mine included (had 5800) now the ODO says 3500. It sucks in places like California where you are legally obligated to disclose the true mileage of a vehicle for sale, and disclose if the number is inaccurate and why.

Oh well guess I aint selling it for AT LEAST another 2300 miles!

The mileage can be reprogrammed in by a Laptop.
There are companies that do it and qoute the Aprilia as in their can do list.
I'll try and dig out a link. No idea on cost though.

I guess these are the same companies that are able to 'correct' mileages on all vehicles:exclamation

Yeah looks like I will be doing this and all...replaced battery a few weeks ago and only noticed today that I have 210 miles on the odometer...When I bought the bike a month ago with 5500....Waht a pain in the back side...See im only bothered about the what if factor...what if the last owner did the same thing and my bike has done many more miles etc...which causes a problem,....service intervals etc...ie mine has had one at 4000 i believe ...now what if, this should have been its 9000 one which is quite an important service..?

A question to the experts is...I have a 3month period with the garage that I bought it...Now its an 05 plate so out of Manufacturers Warranty. But will the garage repplace the dash and install the original mileage for free as it is within the 3month period from purchase...?

Any dealers out there that can comment or any1 who knows???

Ive heard it will only change backwards once, so the mileage you bought with should be the right mileage, i maybe wrong but thats what i heard :thumbup:thumbup

i left my battery off for 2 months and it stayed the same on my 03 rsv mille r

why wont it reset lol
