Evening all, Now I've had a couple of guzzi's in the past so I know the Italians have some strange levels of quality control but this rear brake thing has p***ed me off now!
Less than 3 weeks ago I bled the thing (and yes with the caliper hanging higher) only done about 300miles, went out last weekend and the pedal was fading already.
So thought I would give the 1098 master cylinder conversion a go, cheaper than the rear set option and with a dodgy right knee the only real alternative.
Got hold of a flea bay special for £25 and set myself a Saturday project, straight forward job really but don't be a tight wad like me and try and use the copper washers again, cos these things have a habit of biting you on the arse, a trip to halfrauds for some overpriced washers was my punishment (you live and learn).
What is the story with the OE master cylinder take a look at the picture and the O ring that is on the piston not doing a thing
gaps all round poor, very poor.
So we'll see how we go.

Hope it goes well mate , solve everyones problem.

You may get a job offer in Italy too

Evening all, just got back from a days hooning about in east sussex and yes it is an improvement, I forgot to mention that the 1098 cylinder is 11mm bore so is exerting more pressure for your boot pressure.
I think I might change from the OE pads (sintered) to some organic ones to get a bit more "feel", because the sintered pads are a bit wooden, if that doesn't sound a bit daft!
Was chatting to a mechanic at ogri's café today and explained about the single fluid seal and the O ring on the piston, he was not impressed!
Time will tell if the problem returns, I will let you all know but a few guys have done the mod and had good results.
Had to do something as I am off to the GP in Spain in 5 weeks and didn't fancy going all that way with only one brake!

well, what with the appointment waiting time and the 20 questions that you get from the receptionist you might be better off going to spain!!
Hector, funny you should say that, did get a job offer a few years back ( from a posh car maker with a donkey on the bonnet) turned them down, too full of their own piss and importance.

Tifa's Tip Top copper washer tip:

Take old washer and anneal it.
You are then good to go, and re-use it.
Do this by heating the washer with a blowtorch for several seconds, or leave on an oven ring for 5 mins.
Let it cool down slowly.
Job done.
