After reading about sidestands I decided to operate....(doc.....geddit?)
I ordered a 'kickstand' off US ebay on the 8th Aug and it arrived today.
Fitted in less than 30 mins - bloody good if you know me.....!
Bike is now as stable on stand as anything I've owned and I am no longer dreading the ferry next month.
Issues - the US bracket has 3 mounts - utilises engine mounting bolt above bracket and holding the nut was a tad awkward but that's probably down to me.
Also US bracket ideally needs an allen bolt for fixing behind sidestand switch - my gen 1 had conventional bolts which don't fit in the recess in the US bracket - ok with a couple of washers but careful not to foul switch.....
UK one
US one
Took me longer to do this post than change the stand....:thumbup
