Sidestand mod......Advice needed!!

Sorry to bring this thread up again but im really worried about the angle my bike sits at. It feels like even the slightest gust of wind will topple it over. Can anyone advise what options there are other than the GSXR stand or if that is indeed the best option. Cheers all!

EDIT: I just found a descent thread in amongst all of the results. Spoonz, do you still do the mods on the GSXR stands? Cheers!

iv`e got a side stand from america !!
sounds a bit daft but i had heard that they were a different spec to ours in europe . so had a look via ebay and had one sent over ............
what a difference it makes it`s a bit more chunky than original but the bike sits a lot better and i don`t have any worry`s about it fallin over well worth it .
used the american mount with stand and had to file a bit of the foot bit cause it just touched belly pan when in up position . (would put pics but havent worked out how yet )

The US stand has a different angle bracket as well as the stand length being altered so you need both.

I was going to get a cyclecat billet stand a while back from the US and they told me without the US bracket as well it won't solve the problem.

Their bracket has a different mounting angle to throw the stand further away from the bike.

after reading this thread im lost.

I have a 04 model rsv, i understand there has been issues with side stands but what years of bike?

Could someone please advise exactly what stand it is i need to replace the original. I would be able to do mods as we have machining/welding facilities at my place of work.

Anyone with more information and pics?

Thanks in advance :thumbup

Gsxr stand all the way on post 04 bikes.

Andy's experience with an earlier bike shows it need a bit more modding but post 04 you just have to mod the mounting for the switch and the thread in the head and it's sorted.

Spoonz buddy.........mine is A ok now, no fouling of the fairing at all!! This was due to a faulty sidestand switch which had detached itself slightly causing the fouling!!

SO GUYS.....PLEASE IGNORE MY THREAD NOW AS THE GSXR STAND WORKS PERFECT............:thumbup

any particular one spoonz? will modding be required on my bike?

thanks!

Gsxr pre 2004 i beleive when the stand shape changed.

Basically you have to move the thread on the Gsxr stand from the front of the head and recut it in the back. it involves a bit of drilling/welding but nothing major.
Then just drill a small hole for the switch pin to locate in.

Idiotic question time - whats the matter with the origional stand?

I took mine over to France and when i was strapping it down noticed that the stand was not very firmly fixed (seemed to have a fair bit of slack on its bracket) - but assumed that it was loose on its mount - is that the problem? However it did not fall over, nor furthjer on in the trip when we went on another ferry in rough weather.

So - do we want it more upright or more leant over?

Cheers

Paul

well i think the 99-2000 bikes were to upright (a nudge or gust and over!) the stand was changed slightly for 2001-2003 with more lean, but with full tank would easily topple over stand side, i think the stands are very poor notably U S models got a much better stand :( but i have fitted a slightly modified gsxr k1 stand and it is so much better :)

I'd agree totally with Majorjam.My '01 stand's problem leaned far too much.Fitted a Bubsywoo....lean,footprint and fulcrum(distance of footprint out,much wider)all spot on.

Didn't realise that you hadn't recieved the sidestand, I had a lot of prob's with my old computer at one stage & all my correspondance got wiped & I had over 12 stands go astray with our wonderful Royal Mail !!!.I apologize for not replying if you emailed me.
If you paid for a stand or you had an early one with the welding problems I'm happy to refund your money or replace...just need the old stand or a photo to confirm the stand was faulty. Can I just say to all members that there were issues with the first stands being weak from the inferior welding & materials used. All issues have been addressed & the stands are solid instead of tubular with superior welding. I have not had any defects reported since the second generation stands & the latest is the 4th generation stand.Thankyou to all those that have supported me through the crappy times.Gary

I got mine through the post mate and its finished really well. Its doesnt stand over that much further than the old stand, is this normal? It does seem a little sturdier if im honest but not thoroughly convinced. Any thoughs?
