Gasboy

Just got back from a few days in France,, :thumbup during this time is been harder and harder to get my baby to start :dunno
Last day didnt start and had to push to garage and use there jump leads ?
So cant have that ,, when my by Griff came to see me, the voltage regulator wasnt quite right, do we think this could be the problem , not charging battery ???? :dunno
Also gonna get one of these Yamaha starter relay (part # 4KD-81-940-00) is that still the right one ?

Battery is normaly hooked up to optimate 24/7 but still sometimes after a ride having problems with starting, just seems to be not turning over fast enuff

Oh yeah also dash and lights dim and brighten with the pull of the brakes ??
Cheers boys ,, :thumbup

Hi.

Have you checked the voltage of the battery when the bike is not running and when it is running as it sounds like it isn't charging to me. I am sure people on here who know better will correct me but about 12 when not running and 14.3 when it is is normal.

Steve

same ish for me... 11.7 when not running & 14.2 when bike is running !! :confused

ps my old CBR 600... a known problem for R&R's... did the same... bought new R&R only to find one of my 3 yellow wires was broke !? :dunno

Hi.

Your 11.7 and 14.2 is what they are supposed to be as the bikes internal charging system wll raise the reading through the batery.
When the bike is running if the charge is the similar or lower as when it is not running them you have a problem.

:pirate voltage problems just hate it . sounds like the batt is not getting enough charging in it. check the out put on the voltage regulator and give the batt a full charge and check the brown connector on the right side there is a post on that . I hope you get it sorted.:cheers donnie

Cheers m8 , i am thinking its the voltage regulator coz griff checked everthing, when he was here and said it poss wasnt putting out :devious:devious
Gonna take the one of my bro`s and see if it makes it better :inlove

So anyone tell me best place to get yam starter relay :thumbup

I have just put Yam relay on mine it wasn't cheap from Yamaha dealer just up the road from me but worth it at £33 it made a big difference to mine (probably the cause of the sprag needing doing in my opinion)

let me know how you get on mate..........

i'll talk you through the test that we did to make sure all is well!!!

chers

If they brighten when you put the brakes on it sounds as if you've got an earth problem somewhere (they normally dim slightly if they change at all). Have you changed your indicators or altered the wiring at all recently?

No m8 , but thanks for the input , will have to rip her apart and check !

press the D button on the dash when ya bike is on. it tells ya the voltage out put to ya battery. im sure you all already know this but just suggesting it is easier than pissing about with a multimeter....

gasboy -in my opinion you firstly should get your bat checked - any battery can show 12.5v as they should, but put it under load ie starting it could drop quite a lot - hence no starting power - - regarding the charging side - 14.5v at the battery may well be good but - also you need to see if its charging amps (amperage)

Poor bike is still ******* up from France trip, just have not had time to look at it yet, battery is new, and hooked up at all times !

thought u said u had to push it to garage to get it jump started mate ??

and because battery is new dont mean it not faulty - most modern bike batteries are lead acid as norm but turn to gel - however - if not done correctly / over right time frame it can serious reduce battery life - i know as i sell them

gasboy did the shop sell you the battery already filled or did u have to do it yourself ?

Fitted it myself , got it from one of my large wholesalers , and it is a lucus ..

Yeah i did push it to a garage coz i was on a tour of france !!!!!!

i assume u mean lucas - however lucas is not the lucas of old back in the 1960's 70's- lucas went **** up a while back and since 90's its all been made overseas not in the uk , all was asking gas boy if u filled it or was it filled when you bought it as there is a large difference- due to the small size of a bike battery if there fillled and sit on a shelf they sulphate over time thus reducing longevity and performance
