Instead of getting a Mille???

Would not hesitate in getting an SP2, depends on how tall you are, the Mille is so good for us 6 foot plus riders, the SP's not so good for the taller.
GREAT bike though, dont get an SP1
ukei was gonna buy an sp2 before i got the rsv
but couldnt find a good one for love nor money - sp1's were fetching almost brand new prices too for a 7 / 8 yr old bike

My riding pal has a 2000 sp1, we swapped keys one day and i reckon its a fantastic bike. Doesnt have the style or soul of an italian, but it had an incredible engine (gotta love those gear driven cams) and handled beautifully. Not much at all between the sp1 and mille tbh. Same sorta power, weight etc. I was actually looking for one when i bought the ape! Try one

lovely bikes generally.
Sp1 had slightly snatchy fueling but otherwise fine.
Both have a fairly small tank so limited range but they hold together great.
Nice dash as well

ooohh.SP1..nice bikes,,,my mates got a minter...very nice..wasted on him as its like driving miss daisy ...he's so slow
theres a good rc51 forum in the states..lots of mods you cans do but its a more focused bike then the mille i've been told more track bike than road
the sp2 is meant to be a much better bike...better fuel injection etc
go for it...honda build quality and reliability...

Tell you what though, the SP's do hold their value, you'll be getting an older bike for your money compared to the RSV. An 02 model SP2 will set you back the same kinda money as an 05 > RSV Factory.

I've a 01 red / black SP1 (full remus and power commander) and it is some piece of kit all round. TBH and i'm opening myself up for a bit of a slagging but it's quicker, smoother and better handler than my 03 mille i've put about 5k on it and never had any problems whatsoever with it (no wiring, Sprag, back brake or phantom speedo resetting lol) though when all's said done the mille is more fun you have to work at riding it. I'm not sure on the performance difference between an R or factory though. :dowhat

I like the sp2 in White and black. Better fuelling as well.
What I would really like is an sp2 engine and ecu etc with sp1 colours. Loved joey Dunlop and always fancied a vimto rep. Now that would be nice.

Looks nice mate. I'd still want an sp2 if I could but I love that sp1 colour scheme. Aren't the European ones restricted though?
