Ah, kids today eh? I remember one of our youthful gang running a sprocket that looked like the waves in Weymouth bay on a calm day, worn down until it was like a series of gentle undulations. Rode like having a badly slipping clutch.

Bloody hell i hope you gave him a :bitchslap round the earhole and grounded him for a week :roll

Crikey Mick that's bad, however it's not a hard anodized Renthal sprocket which is the one which should be used for road use.

Certainly had his monies worth out of that sprocket, although at 3K I wouldn't have expected it to have worn out so quickly.

Perhaps it's because he doesn't check his chain tension and lubricate it that often?

Thats shocking!

Ive just brought one of these and its due to be fitted on Tuesday when Griffs over. I hope mine lasts a little longer than that. I was surprised though when i got it, its very light and the material seems very soft.

What is the life expectancy of these things then?

Don't worry too much, I had a set of Renthals on my ZX6R that lasted for 7K.

If you regularly clean, adjust and lubricate your chain you'll be fine.

That sprocket died due to neglect.

Cheers Alan, while were on this subject what do you recon is the best chain lub? I nomally do mine once a week if using the bike daily.

I use Castrol chain wax, have used this for almost 12 years now and it's about the best on the market.

Only downside with chain wax is you have to degunge the chain every few months and then re-apply the wax.

I tend to use paraffin and a trimmed down paint brush to clean off all the old wax, it doesn't damage the 'O' / 'X' rings on the chain.

PS. Forgot to add, always apply the wax when the chain is warmed up, just after a run is a good time.

Ive used that too and not had any problems with it.

Im currently using wurth chain lub, its translucent. I agree its not as god as the castrol.

Castrol chain wax for me . Been using it for years quality stuff

Good wipe with a cloth soaked in EP90 gear oil works for me :thumbup ( It's so good I've even been known to use it on the chain from time to time ):eek:

On a more serious note,I run a Supersprox Stealth sprocket on the SV1000s that has a lightweight alloy hub & a steel toothed outer, that has to be the best of all worlds.

Got a Renthall on the Mille so it will be interesting to see how the 2 types compare.

Im gonna have to try some new lube as sick and tired of haveing ***** flung up all over the place.

Wurth Dry lube is quite good apparently.

i've used wurth dry chain lube now for few years and it seems to be good, i fit new chain & sprockets every 10k, it doesn't seem to pic up & hold the road grit like the waxes, imo.
