Well, I have just sorn'd my prilly. I am going to strip off the fairings and give it a good clean and lube for the winter months where she will be sat connected to an Optimate.

Is there anything I should do (or not) to make the spring starting any easier ? I am quite disciplined and so it will not be started (just for the hell of it) until its ready to be taken out proper.

I am going to drop the oil tomorrow take off the wheels and give them a good clean and generally sort out a few marks on the belly pan. I changed the plugs last month so just plan to clean up the engine and use some corrosion inhibitor on the cases. Bleed out and flush the black oil in the clutch reservoir (why do Aprilias do that to the clutch fluid)

The chain needs a good clean so the Paraffin’s coming out to play again...

Oh and of course give the fantastic brakes (front) a clean and service...

Anything else ?

I am keen to sort a few minor marks on the swinger (a few boot scratches and stone marks) will they polish out ?

I use ACF-50 corrosion inhibtor...if it's good enough for aircraft it's good enough for my pride 'n' joy :thumbup

I also use Parafin to clean the chain :thumbup

I'm going to strip my fairings off and give the engine a good clean...i'll decide then whether they'll go back on as a different colour :biggrin

I wont sorn my bike tho', there's always a chance of a good day here and there over the winter months :devious

why bother with the oil? Id strip and give it one hell of a clean, put it on trickle charge and then just cover up and leave it, until of course spring, oild and fluid change and a full clean and regrease and away you go

Did an oil, oil filter and coolant change yesterday.
But the weather was so nice so took her for a spin today ;)

Temp was around +1 centigrade and sun was shining. Had to beware of the spots that were on shade and dump due probability of ice we had -3 centigrade last night.

Maybe the last rides this season...

Well I have never laid a bike up for any length of time with used engine oil the oil in it.

I dont thinks its really a good idea to leave oil in the cases over the winter as the oil itseslf is about as nasty a substance once used (1500 miles is enough to make it like that) it contains all sorts of chemicals that will not do the engine any good (IMHO) read this :

According to the U.S. EPA, used motor oil is any petroleum-based or synthetic oil that has been used for vehicle lubrication. As a result of normal use, motor oil becomes contaminated with various impurities such as dirt, water, chemicals or metals from your engine.

Some governmental jurisdictions classify used motor oil as hazardous. It may contain additives (e.g. rust inhibitors), contaminants (e.g. heavy metals generated through engine wear, or externally introduced materials such as PCBs from old transformer oils), potentially carcinogenic, polycyclic, aromatic compounds (from the fuel combustion process), or glycol leaked from the cooling system.

Because of these “impurities,” used motor oil should be handled with care and disposed of correctly to ensure the safety of the local community, environment and waterways.
