First time I saw a Tuono was June 05 in Spain. Liz & I had stopped for lunch in Potes, at the time I had a VFR800 and Liz had just got her first bike a 600 Hornet. I had been thinking for a while that since I no longer needed to carry a pillion I could get something a bit more fun, but I really didn't fancy a sports bike - the riding position didn't appeal, especially given I would do a fair bit of steady ridnig with Liz.
Right on cue a couple of English lads roll in, one on a monster, the other on what I learned was a Tuono. At first glance I thought it was a crashed mille, a home brew fighter. We chatted for a while and went our separate ways, once back in the UK it took me a while to track one down to test ride, but once I was out of the shop I was sold within the first few miles.
I like the upright riding position, it gives good all around vision, top speed is actually lower in real terms than the VFR (effortless 130mph cruise mode) but cornering ability, acceleration, and fun facter have yet to be matched for me.
Last year I held off trading up as I was worried about work (civil engineering isn't busy at the minute) but did test ride a number of bikes, the one bike that kept coming back up to the top was the Gen II Tuono.
Having spent a fortune upgrading my Tuoldo, I knew it had to be a Factory. When my mate Windy annonced he had test ridden a couple of KTM's and blown them out on price and handling to get another Tuono, I thought again about swapping, a couple of dealers were saying that the Factory was going out of production, so I figured I had better get a move on.
As for the V4 - can't say it's eagerly awaited, for me a 1200cc V twin based on the Shiver family would get my cash.
