While washing my T.............

I'd like to start off by saying this. I know most of you love your motorbikes and do take care of them. BUT, are you paying attention to them? I ask only because I noticed something in myself today. You see, I wash and regularly wax my beloved T as well as any mods I felt necessary but didnt really pay attention to her. While giving her the usual lathery lustrous bubbly bath I noticed a missing rear caliper bolt. Missing says I, yes sir surely gone from sight and the other perilously loose. This in itself could spell catastrophe for your dear Wile E. I know its been mentioned here before but, please take the time to give your lass (or lad if that suits you) the attention he/she deserves. It might just save you from a greivous loss. Yours in spirit............Wile E.

Hmm shall have a look, mine needs a bit of TLC. Can't remember whether I used Loctite the last time I removed.

Well spotted Wile,
i doubt id notice if the rear caliper fell of !! :lol:lol

strangely enough, I noticed one of the footrest/exhaust hanger bolts was missing the other day but when I tried to replace the bolt there's no friggin thread in the subframe, someone has stripped it presumably when replacing the cans :banghead :thumbdown

I believe you have this as your normal service interval. This when you are after all the bolts and screws you can get at without removing major parts. You sweep the hardware from from to back. I start with the axle bolt-pinchers-upper pinch-lower pinch bolts-fork steering knock if needs adjusting. And move to the rear as you work to check all the hangers with a bunch of hand tools in your hand as you move over the bike. This is mentioned in your full service 600mi break in. You then make it routine on you minor and major services.

Good eyes, WC. That is how you clean your bike wet or dry. Keep looking and looking.

good comment and advice, dont do it as often as i should, but at least every 6 month. a lot of folk i know never bother, just wait fer something to break.. ****** scary way of life. All i,ve ever had fall off any bike i had was ... 1 x number plate, like who the **** checks those !! and 1 x pillion (his choice, he new the risks)..

Yup my T has a habit o shoogling bits loose. Other day after a er spirited ride, was nearly home and thought things are gettin a bit loud. The LH exhuast had come loose and was just sort o laying against the link pipe, could have been nasty at ,er 60 MPH oficcer, if the exhaust had come off. Second time that has happened.

A lost two screws oot ma boot sliders. Does that count.

After ma bikes first service (wigan 400mile roon trip) i stop fir fuel and a smoke on the way hame.

As a approach ma machine effter a pish a notice there's a bolt missin fae the r/h rear end of the belly pan.

**** this is utter ****.

Ignore.

Harmonic buzzbomb. Not in right gear or the sync is off. Yep, I've noticed to keep her running smooth all the time. The more cylinders, the smoother the engine = Little to no shooglings.

I've found that as well if you're not in the right gear. However there is a sweet spot in the rev range that allows for a nice smooth(ish) hurl. It's an auld trick frmo mi Elsie days.

Hi guys, riding home the other day and the entire headlight unit was moving back and forth, upon inspection i found that two M6 bolts had gone AWOL!!

aye loons... these thing vibe a fair bit an obviously at a frequency that causes yer average metric bolt tae vaporize intae space....... ye should gie it a once ower every time ye get back frae a serious jaunt.

an best tae cure a lot o it in the first place an go roond the bike an tighten athing up as the factory muppets obviously didnae.

Hi Garry, apart from the bolts going west and the clocks fogging(going back to dealer to put right) i absolutely love it!! I've had about thirty bikes of all descriptions over the years and nothing comes close.

bikepaul , clocks and bits falling off is all parr for the course, obviously as 2know pointed out this is all part of V twin ownership and regular checks are the order of the day

I was used to it when I owned the Buell. Bloody thing would rattle your teeth. When I bought my TL Suzi it was aother animal all together. Smooth yet same v power. I guess the Tuono is a bit more vibey, and I had forgotten my twin mannerisms. I hate to locktight everything down, its a ***** when it really sticks. I lust over the Tuono, guess it'll be just be part of my lovin on the thing. I'd know about what 2know had said if I'd had a manual or the gumption to read it.
