I was talking to a bloke today in Helmsley on a factory T, and he said he'd put a 180 rear tyre on and its transformed his bike.
Who has used the 180, and what do you think?

I have a 180/55 rather than the 190/50 - turns in better with the taller tyre.
I run 2CT pilot powers, which can foul the chain if you fit the 190/50.

Cheers Paul, that interesting about the tyre fouling as I was considering those tyres

i run a 190 2ct pilot power on my 08 Factory and never had any problem with the chain, in fact ive just checked and theres at least 6mm clearance between tyre/chain

i have changed down to a 180 on the last 3 bikes ive had. i prefer the quicker turn in you get.

i droped the yokes down the forks, turns in lovely

ah've got a 190 bridgestone on but the chains tain we gouges oot the side aw the way round, looks kinda cool lol, due a new rear soon, an wis thinking aboot a 180 so itll be guid tae here aw the thoughts on what folk rekon

Same here. I have string aligned the T as well, so I know it's all straight.

I personally like the phat 190 profile (compensating for sumfink?). I am going to lift the forks/drop the yokes to get her turning in quicker.

I run a 190/55 Pilot Power 2CT with no clearance problems and it gives a nice consistent quick turn in.

I do have ther forks dropped a couple of rings which also speeds things up a bit, but I prefer the planted and settled feel the 190 gives me when cornering over the 180 profile.

At the end of the day it's down to personal preference, but clearance isn't an issue as Aprilia have offered both 180 and 190 profiles on all their 1000cc bikes for a good few years now. My old Falco would take either, even after I fitted the Mille swinging arm to it

The 190/50 Michelins foul the chain on the Tuoldo's - the later models may have slightly different offsets so it may not be an issue. :dunno

Strangely 190 Dunlops, Pirellis and Bridgestones don't seem to have the same clearance problems.

Either way the taller profile of the 55 gives better turn in, I haven't tried a 190/55 so they may be the same, grip wise there is plenty to leave nice big darkies all the way through some corners I can think of. :yes

190 Power 2CT's for me but have dropped the front yoke to 12mm through on my factory which totally transformer the agility and feel. :thumbup:thumbup

I recommend everyone to give it a try.....5mm down from stock position and its like a diff bike.:cheers

Cheers Troy. I'm on the spanners tomorrow to try this out.:thumbup

Thanks for all the replies chaps, it gives me a lot of food for thought + the fork mod

Chunky - I dropped mine about 8mm from stock but wanted it really nosey. I suggest you start with a 5mm drop and then go again if you want more.

I prefer the 190 profile. You can really lean the bike over on its side and gas the hell out of it with the 190. It's your personal preference that counts.

Mine came with a 190 and the during a service the dealer said it needed changing due to a puncture, he stuck a 180 2ct on it (he didn't tell me it was a 180!)..so tried both and reckon the 190 is preferable personally, Interesting about the fork drop though...think i might give that a go :thumbup:thumbup

ive dropped the yokes on almost every bike ive had, also jacked the rear up on most of them and i prefer the 180. i like em twitchy.
