Ok, is the battery connected to an Optimate 4? Even a new battery will loose enough oomph in a couple of weeks to cause a starting problem particularly if an alarm is fitted, especially in this very cold weather

battery is 3 days old... lol... no optimate available... nowhere too plug it in @ home or work... no alarm either !! :unhappy

i really dont have the right environment to keep this bike as it has too sit outside continously open to the elements... not thats an excuse for a modern bike... my bosses CBF600 starts 1st time & my old GSXR750F 1985 starts 1st time !! :rant

It may of course be something else other than a low battery. It's a process of elimintation. Inline 4's need at lot less oomph from the battery when starting so they are still able to start on low batteries. All vtwins, whether they are Aprilia, Ducati, Honda, Suzuki etc need a much higher current draw to tun over the vtwin engine, hence all the starting problems when batteries become low or weak. Hope you can get it sorted

me too... appreciate the ideas though... any advice is more than welcome !! :thumbup

I recently had the same thing. Turned out that due to a problem with a knackered battery and me trying to kick the bike over, it suddenly stopped flashing EFI and showed DIAG 1. I've sorted the starting problem and the DIAG 1 message has now gone. Go figure!

Under the offside underseat panel, its a single wire with a small white barrel connector... Diag 1 is normal, it should read 0 with the throttle stop (idle) wound right out, this indicates the butterflys are shut completly

Im having same issues.
Took to aprilia dealer and they fitted a new battery and plugs. The battery wasnt a YTZ14BS but a YTZ12BS i belive, is this still no good? the bike was turning over but now is turning over for a few seconds, stopping and then will make a buzzing sound when ignition is pressed. Its also making a clonking sound when trying to turn over. Im seriously thinking ive bought the wrong bike here as ive had problem after problem with this RSV. Anyone any ideas? To be honest the dealership has made things worse. Atleast i could jump the bike from a car before taking to dealership but now it wont even do that.
Some help please guys as the bloody dealership charged me 207 quid to put a new battery and plugs in !!!!!! i find that disgusting to be honest espesially when it is worse now than before i took it to them.

i would have thought the dealership would have checked all that. They said they went thro everything including wireing.

Diag 1 if i recall vanishes when you adjust the idle knob e.g. idle knob to "off" position then you should have no "error" code. As the idle adjustment actually has effect to throttle body butterflies.
