Should there be something plugging the hole? what is the purpose of this hole?

It is sweating a little oil???

it's a tell tale hole that lets coolant out when the waterpump seal is knackered, dont plug it

spot on vince, just had water pump seal replaced myself, as u know. but now have got it back and there is another leak which looks like its coming from a dripping hose. clip knackered? Ironic thing is, it wasn't leaking that noticably when i took the bike in. got it back and i'm loosing water el rapido! can't wait to get these little problems ironed out.

hmmm i was gonna ask a similar question if it's the same hole i'm thinking of mine seems to be leaking slightly or has at some point. Definitely seems to be oil coming out of mine though

must admit, mine was slightly oily but garage told me that it was time to replace the water pump seal. not weaping out of that hole anymore, it was minimal anyway but got another water leak now! bugger.

Both of mine leaked oil, there are 2 seals, one for coolant & one for oil, usually the oil one goes 1st

Yes the design is pretty smart - if the seal fails oil/coolant does not mix. Common solution in many bikes, I have all required parts waiting for the installation, but i hope there still would be some days riding left up here before i start.

haha we're still in the same boat then eh jussi?! i've done about 2000 miles on mine since getting the bits, and to be honest i'm wondering if i need to bother changing them at all?! well at least it'll give me something to do on these dark evenings! :eatcorn

Yes it is more or less sweating not bleeding, but it makes the engine dirty so in the dark winter days with some beer i am gonna change them...

An other thing is the valve clearances that i will check again.. No other maintenance needed...
