I've searched the web for the correct power of my bike. What I've found is that it varies from 101kW to 105kW...
Which one is the right one?

My bike, a 2004 RSV 1000R, is registered as 78kW bike at the moment and I want to re-register it to full power and need the correct output.

Thanks for your help.

we measure in BHP, that's BRITISH horsepower lol (it's really brake horse power- I live in Essex, I wasn't born here lol)

The common people measures in HP, but government officials wants it in kW. That's why I asked. My bike is restricted and I want to register it unrestricted and a lot of the online journals give me different answers. The same does Wikipedia. Confuses the hell out of me...

Kilowatt is just an other way saying the same... 100 kV is 134Hp, but the truth is how much you get from the back wheel on dyno ;)
My Finish MOT papers say 92 kW = 123HP, but she gives more from the back wheel on Dyno...

Stated power outputs to the 'driving shaft' are:
2003 R = 86.5kW @9250 (2003 Workshop Manual)
2003 F = 92 kW @9250 (2003 Workshop Manual)
2005 R & F = 102kW @9500 (2005 Workshop Manual)
2006 & 2007 R & F = 105kW @10000 (2006 & 2007 Brochures)

All of these are measured to European Standard 95-1-EC, which requires the measurements to be made at the crank and also specifies many other parameters to make normalisation possible.

One of the discrepancies that occurs is that a lot of manufacturers (Aprilia included) list their power output in metric horsepower (PS, CV etc. - which are smaller than imperial (UK) horsepower), so the quoted numbers look bigger. They confuse the matter still further by incorrectly stating them to be 'HP' in print.
1 metric horsepower = 0.736kW
1 imperial horsepower = 0.746kW

So,
2003 R = 86.5kW @9250 = 118PS = 116HP
2003 F = 92 kW @9250 = 125PS = 123HP
2005 R & F = 102kW @9500 = 139PS = 139HP
2006 & 2007 R & F = 105kW @10000 = 143PS = 141HP

Incidentally, the term 'brake' as in 'brake horsepower' is irrelevant, as it only describes the device on which the power was measured.

Read this thread with great interest. Didn't understand a f@@king word of it, but I read it. My conclusion was that I'll stick to what I know. In other words BHP, inches, feet, yards, gallons, pints. You can stick your metric units along with the euro and everything else designed to confuse me!

Hehehe...

There are two ways of converting kW into HP.

1. 1kW = 1.36hp
2. 1kW = 1.34hp

All depends on which side of the pond you are! It sucks that we can't agree on one standard. Blame the scientists.

Norway has traditionally been a HP country, but in recent years been switching over to kW (the 1.36 standard).

Inches, feet, yards, gallons and pints confuse the hell outta me :)

I am also somewhat confused on UK measures, however, pint is familiar one dunno why ;)

Your bike must have been a french import.....hence the 78kw=100hp ish , which is their limit on any bike...must have had the ecu flashed or its dog slow...are you 100% sure the bike is now a full power model.

restricted licenses are common i think that's an EU rule for younger drivers, but I`ll agree that restricted RSV is worthless... As the fun on this V twin starts when you open the throttle. Its not a Dragstar after all.
