It says alot that the more "unusual" engine configurations are becoming the domain of more exlusive manufacturers and also more exclusive bank balances too. It's also very telling that the japs don't fancy it either, apart from Yamaha maybe who are starting to look at mixing things up a bit with their uneven firing approach, albeit with a conventional 4. This may at least prod the others to have a think about it but I very much doubt anything'll happen soon.

If things keep going the way they are anything other than jap 4's will be out of reach for most of the general populous and even if Honda did an SP3 or Suzuki did a GSVR V4 type thing I doubt many of us would be able to afford it as both would probably be 10k+. Plus the japs are way too economically savy to even consider launching a new and expensive model in the current economic climate so I reckon it'll be at least 2 years before anything is seriously considered if at all.

Subsequently it's undoubtedly worth hanging on to our RSVs and Milles etc as they're only gonna get rarer and they may even end up being considered a modern classic in years to come! Who knows.

It depends if we're talking in an ideal world or not.

I bet the RSV4 would be awesome on the road, but probably too focused like the 1098 etc.

Having had a couple of VFR's and ridden a VTEC one, I love the V4's charcter, but they just need another 30bhp and better suspension. If there was another slightly more comfy V4 Aprilia brought out after the RSV4 - say like a V4 Falco / Tuono with the same grunty engine, then I'd jump at that!

Having only had my RSV for under a month I'm not looking to change yet, far from it. Part of it's appeal is the charcter of the engine, but the fact that it isn't minimoto sized, like most Japs and the Ducati's is a big bonus for real-sized blokes who are 6ft and carrying some weight! :pirate

I have caught myself looking at the ZX12R lately, after over ten years of owning sports bikes I'm gettin fed up with the extreme riding position that seem to get worse as years go by(or maybe it's just me getting older:biggrin)
I love my RSVR but at over 6 foot any journey over an hour is a pain,in an ideal world I'd keep the RSV for scratchin and something else for touring but as it stands now I can get an older ZX12R for half what me Aprilia is worth and the extra cash would come in handy, has anyone here any experience with the ZX12,I've never ridden one as they are faily rare around here.

I have a friend who has a Zx12r.

The biggest problem was finding a good one. There were not many to choose from and getting one that was clean and had all of the recalls etc done was hard. Some of the recalls were quite serious so make sure iff an affected model they are done.

Ride wise it is a barge compared to the Rsv but not as bad as it's bulk would suggest it would be. Needs to be revved more than you would expect from a 1200 but when it goes it goes. His is a nice shade of metalic red.

Unless you can do servicing and maintenance on the V4 Ape yourself..i think the cost to maintain will be very high..right along with the starting price. I too think they have just priced themself out of the market with this one. :( not a strategic move IMHO

ha ha ha

the japs have a great talent for taking grand prix and high tech and either not applying it or applying it to the wrong bike or applying it half heartedly in watered down fashion

honda are the masters of this, they are gonna make a v5 but its a vfr they give the vfr vtec, but its still 40bhp down on a gixxer

yamaha give us the cross plane crank, which is beefed up to to resist the stresses (read heavier) but dont use the m1's contra rotation

lets be honest, just economies of scale should let honda build a 1098, but make it 2 or 3 grand cheaper.

if the 1200 twins continue to have a big impact on the race tracks, i reckon its inevitable that the Japs will come up with something other than an il4

personally im waiting for a Daytona 675 to be scaled up to a 1100 triple

If I had the cash i would spend it in a european direction, at least they are trying to push motorcycle development forward.

actually cant wait to see the new beemer, Japanese fast, italian cool, german build
should be fantastic

well, moneys gunna be an issue for me now tbh,and doubt ill get another bargain like my old mille!
i fancied a busa or zx12 in green next if i could choose, but looking at funds and the way te economys heading, ill not be getting ewt new, older is th way forward,in cars too.
already lost most of their depreciation.
itll probably be a good old black 1200 bandit for me in the future, better for 2 up riding, still sound the dogs with a race can,lot of bike for the money and wheelies like fook.
get a good early example, the better bike imo for around £1500-1800 and itll never really lose any money.im no snob, and as long as im on 2 wheels for next summer,i dont care that its on a naked muscle bike.plus i think ill be able to park it any were without it getting bothered and chain it up the side of my house just with a cover over it.
cant imagine life wiowt a bike fullstop.
i reckon you fellas will still except me.lol

Before my 02 RSV, I had a Thundercat for eight years. I've only had the Aprilia for two, so I'm guessing I'll hang onto it for a while yet... unless I stumble across a late, mint '03RSVR perhaps. :biggrin
I'm hoping that by the time I need to make this decision, Aprilia have seen the error of their ways, and introduced a new RSV... :doug
Alternatively, I suppose I'll be old enough to start dressing up in frilly leather and get me a Harley... :puke

(That last was a joke, please don't chuck me off the forum...)

Nothing wrong with Harleys. My old MT350 was the toughest ******* bike I've ever owned. Come to think of it, that had a Rotax engine too. Do I see a pattern developing?

did you see the pics of the buell with an aftermarket full fairing fitted, was well sexy

I think i know where ya coming from dude, in relation to cars ive always loved the honda Vtec the way it revs to the skys and screams for more and then on the other side you got your turbs all low down grunt even if they were the same speed, the honda always used to feel that bit more fun as you had to tank it all the way upto the redline

Fo us Taller riders most of the Japanese il4's are like riding a a fast scooter. Just too small.

I've done the Gsxr 750's and other than a mad blast around the local roads for an hours or so the novelty of 2000 gear changes per minute soon wore off.

Horses for Courses i guess. Seems the trend is smaller and smaller though so soon i won't be able to ride a sportsbike at all. Have to have a Pan european and weave my way round. My local Police have some going cheap.

Thats why I gave up the R1 that and the money I was throwing at it got silly , I am only 6 foot tall but weigh 17stone so an R1 looks like a two wheeled suppository on me !!. The R1 killed my wrists and back, unless on the track and was very hard work on the road, constantly rowing up and down the gearbox as "spoonz" says. (maybe because of its track focus)
