Unhappy with your rear brake?

ideally you'd use it more than the front! it's the best brake to use to scrub speed off on corners and not upset the bike and just cruising round town. Kevin Schwantz was renowned for popping rear brake seals all the time as he'd use it soooo hard. There is nothing hairy chested about not using it. DO IT

my rear brake is very good . my mot guy said mille rear brakes are crap untill he tested mine and said it was great ,must be the open air slave that does it not getting to hot .

i use my rear brake a lot but not for general braking. i only use it when im doing slow speed manouvering, filtering etc and to scrub off just a little extra speed if i realise ive gone in a bit hot and dont wanna lose the front! i find dragging the back brake a little when doing the manouvering and tight space filtering just gives me a little extra stability. i cant see that i would use it on track though. i know that gp bred racers use the rear brake a lot, but racers from superbike and supersport backgrounds all seem to think the same, ie, REAR brake??? IVE GOT ONE OF THOSE??!!!

I'd have to disagee with the last - saw an interview with John McGuinness talking about the supersport TT - he's got a thumb brake fitted, as it allows much better fine control in all the areas where you need to settle the bike (and there's a lot of them on the TT, as it's a road circuit...) - used well, the rear brake (especially on a sports bike on the road), can help you maintain more balance/predictability and therefore speed...

exactly my point, mcguiness, legend on the roads, i think its useful there, just in general actual circuit racing i know most barely touch it unless its to tighten their line mid corner. my brother in law rides in the ducati 848 evo challenge, former bsb superbike cup rider, superstock 1000 for 4 seasons, superstock 600 and 125cc championships. he has a thumb operated rear brake as most of the paddock do. all the other riders we know and spk to have slight differences. i know leon haslam never ever uses it until he has had to learn just recently to attempt to ride round a problem with his bmw, but sam and alex lowes, jon kirkham, barry burrel, kenny gilbertson, tommy hill, stuart easton and steve plater all only use mid corner. i think its generally the riders these days that have better electronics packages that will use the rear brake under heavy braking, as the guys i know in circuit racing just complain that when braking heavy with the front it just locks the rear so easily as the rear is barely even in contact with the track. it would be interesting to find out what other road racers say as i wonder if they share mcguinness's preference of using the rear aswell on the road but not so much on circuit. ill have to ask around at the next race wkend im at!

had a good tip from a bike mechanic buddy!! (to which hes trying to source) use ap555 racing brake fluid which runs at very high temp with no brake fade

I use it sometimes, but it does work well : - )

Is it definitely the heat knackering the fluid that causes the rear brake to go crap after a while or is there something else? If so I might invest in some Aprilia Performance rear-sets... been thinking about it for a bit anyway.
