Thanks Starman.

I think I have had all the various failure modes over the years on batteries on differenet bikes.

OlafTuono, there's obviously a lot more science involved when it comes to maintaining a bike battery.

I think the answer is to not put the T in hibernation, but on the flip side I wouldn't rest easy riding it all year through all the ***** and salt. I know there are plenty on here that do and will but it's not me and if that costs me a battery come spring time then so be it. :unhappy

Thanks, nice bit of info. I'm going to get a smart charger, didn't have enough oomph to get started this morning but it is pretty cold. Jump leads are always a good idea as a back up.

i bought the oxford optimiser 900 from the bike show at the NEC last year, had it hooked up with the purpose fitted plug supplied with the unit, and its been great whilst the bikes been tooked away in the garage, first time starter every time, its a 2006 2nd gen and was pretty bad for starting if the battery wasn't 100%,

Not a happy chappy.
Had the bike less than a week and it failed to start twice. I bought a 3 stage charger to use over night at home and it started sweet yesterday and this morning. Came to start it in the yard at work and not enough juice!

I had to get a lift home :-/

I think I'll need a new battery. Any advice?

Would like maximum capacity please.

So I put in a Motobatt AGM 14Ah battery and WOW what a difference. With higher CCA this bad boy sprang into action immediately.

Interestingly the one I replace was also an AGM by Powerline. A learned friend of mine explained - AGMs don't like Optimates and I think this had been hooked up to one during winters gone by (12 year old bike/16000 miles).

After charging with my 3 stage charger for the initial boost before starting first time with the new battery he reckons I should never charge again and won't need to, even overwintering in the garage.

Hi Hermanji,
Hopefully you are now sorted and can enjoy the T reliably

i really rate the Motobatt's. never had to charge mine when using the bike regularly. Had good results from Japanese or American Yuasa's - less so for the chinese ones.
