hi guys and gals !! am picking up my new to me 57 plate tuono on sun . the rear tyre is a brand spanker of a road pilot the front is a worn pilot 3
shuld i replace the pair with pilot 3,s or just the front with a pilot road . have aways been very happy with roadsmarts on my speed triple which are very good all rounders ( v good in the wet especially ) . in abit of a quandry , am going to the bike show at nec 1 dec so will be looking for a bargain
what do you use and what would you reccommend for all round use ( i,m not a track day junkie )
just a bit of a tight arse so the mrs sez as by birth i,m a yorkshire man , suggestions please !!!

hilift if you type in tyres to the search block you will get a list of all the old tyre threads on here, that will give you some help i hope. must admit im a dunlop fan myself

Hilift,
In my opinion, being a carefull geordie, although its well intended, I dont think all the info about tyres should be taken as gospel.

I have always chosen my tyres on a) cost, b) availability.

I stick to major brands but in my experience it makes no difference whatsoever to handling that I can detect if I mix up brands on the front & back.

Simple. Replace the front, as its worn, with the same type as the New one on the back.:thumbup

WooooHoooooo! Another tyre thread
I'm in.

Wear your existing tyres out, take your time and enjoy the bike.

Then when they are shot, invest in some Sportsmarts.

And REALLY enjoy the bike :)

hilift, I do a few m/way miles and got pissed off at replacing rear tyres at stupid miles. I gave the Pirelli Angles a go and the rear lasted jist short of 5K.

No issues with them and they're used in all conditions.

thanks for the constructive replys , if occasionally old threads like tyre threads were not re started , we may all be looking at reccommendations for avon sm,s from the 60,s . tyre tech is changing all the time and as we should all know different tyres suit different bikes / cars / trucks !!

Dont take the bait Hilift.

This time of year new posts are are a bit thin on the ground.

SO, keep posting.

Hilift,

I stick to major brands but in my experience it makes no difference whatsoever to handling that I can detect if I mix up brands on the front & back.

just read an article in Bike magazine on handling problems and the main reason for stability (mid corner) issues was mis matched tyres

Over the years I have heard all of this & take it on board.

But speak as I find & in my limited experiece I cant tell, perhaps if I did more miles ?

Or maybe on a track day it would make a difference to me.

Or I cant tell the diffenece between bumpy corners & wobbly handling.

If it was me i would put a new PR3 on the front so its there for when the PR on the rear is past its best. Its more likely that the PR on the rear will let go before the front so should be safe enough.

The PR3 is a great tyre in all conditions and is more than what most of us riding capabilities are.

Just my thoughts and what i would do, hope it makes sense..

Indeed ! that's prolly a seasons riding for me, but what a 1300 miles !

If it floats yer boat mucker then there are fewer finer tyres aboot imo.

As yer say, they'll rip the fookin arse aff the Tarmac. :thumbup

I just like a good all round tyre. I did around 10k in the last year. If I get around 3k out of a rear then I'm happy. I'm no where near the limit of the tyres I fit. Having tried to follow Aldo on several occasions then if you can get 5k and go as quick on Angels, then they might be worth a look.
