i got a puncture today in my rear tyre, and am looking at a new tyre. was just interested to hear about what others tend to get on with.

it currently has metzeler racetecs and they are unbelieveable in the dry, stick like spunk to a cloth, but they are **** in the wet and i ride all year round!

pilot road twos are good, i have them on my kwak ZZR but i wanted something a little grippier in the dry, im used to the racetec dry grip!

maybe pirellis? dunlops? bridgestones? a sports tyre with some wet capabilities.

cheers y'all in advance!

I'm running a bt016 front and bt021 rear and am very pleased with them both especially the rear. Loads of grip and heats up very quick, don't imagine it would cope well with lots of track days but i ride everyday all year round and the pirelli diablo i had on before was done after 3000 miles. For me the 021 is the right compromise between grip and life. Also its great in the wet.

As for the 016 front i've only had it on a month now and i really like it as it drops in quickly and in the dry its awsome and in the wet i have not had any dramas but that said it hasn't been through a soaking winter yet so can't comment on that yet.

Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's very sticky , heat up quickly, not so hot in damp greasey conditions and yes about 3k (or 1500 if very aggressive)on the rear is max.

I run the same combo :biggrin Like r896neo says :thumbup

um ok lads cheers. i was looking at the dunlop 209RR qualifiers, anyone had any experience with these? i used to have dunlop 207RR's on my gsxr 600 and loved them but its a little different to a gixxer lol

I had qualifier RR on the bike last season.

Great tyre. Much better than old 207,208. Heats up quickly, sticks as it should, lasts oke for this type of tyre, mine lasted for 6kkm+. Softer compound on the edges than in the middle and so on..

In the rainy weather, well... its still a sport tyre :D, but it does oke.

mmm ok dude ill have to look into it more! there is also a GP version, right? i bet thats just like the metzeler, 900 miles and its shagged. good grip though :)

From dunlop you have:
  • Qualifier, Qualifier2, sport riding
  • Qualifier RR, agresive sport riding, some track
  • GP Racer, track, but also ok for the street
  • GP, only for the track and even that with tyre warmers

You just have to select how and where your ride :), remember better tyre isnt necessary better if you cant warm it up.

well i got me new tyre today, i asked about the dunlops and they told me that for what i do riding wise i should go with the pirelli diablo corser 111's so i did.

apparently they are very good in the dry, and pretty good in the wet and cold! just have to scrub the bloody things in now before any hard riding.

helo, which combination do you guys use? 120/65 f and 180/55 r or 120/70 f and 190/50 r?

Diablo corsa 3's make a little bit of *** wee come out of my exhaust:thumbup

most use 120/70and 190/50 I use a 190/55 in the back of mine with a 120/70 front but its all down to person preference trying things out and finding what suits you....

that is what i want to avoid - buying and trying :) i do not drive so much and the tyres will hold me for the whole season so i won't feel the difference when changing next season :) thanks anyway for your reply

iv got 120/190... now the suspension has been set up professionally... it rolls around corners luvly jubly !! :biggrin

only prob being... bike came with mismatched tyres... Dunlop 207 rear & Pirelli diablo front !! :dowhat

i think i will go for dunlop208 front and rear. for 200EUR it looks like a good tyre for a very good price.

I dont know how much tyres cost where you are, but I can get qualifiers rr for around 200-220eur, should be something the same in your country :)

Dunlop doesnt make d208 anymore, so you will get an old tyre. +qualifiers are better.

Go for the 120/70, 190/55 the best combination :)

i am not a track driver so would'nt be the 208 better than the qualifier for me then?

Qualifier is the next version of 208, its for the street, not for the track. The main advantage is that it heats up quicker than d208. And the RR version of qualifier has a harder compound on the middle and softer on the edges, so it will last a bit longer.

I would recomend qualifier rr for street riding. Im not saying that d208 is bad, just that qualifier is better, for the same money :D

Dont the 190's lick the hugger, sure i read that ages ago........or is it only the 55's and not the 50's........... I dunno anymore, you guys with the pilots let me know how you get on as well, as i'm gonna be after new rubber soon, but i am only intrested in maximum grip, not wear :biggrin
