Chatting ti a fellow biker over the weekend and he said he rode road bikes for years sold his sports bike and bought an endure and hasn't had as much fun before ina bike. 30 quid tax per year and no chance of killing himself like on the road. It's a sobering thought and one to think about eh

Bay min, the risks o gettin twatted while oot oan ma bike is always in mah mind whinever ah go oot, whether its rapido oan the T or the commute oan the auld TDM but ye cannae go through life thinkin "what if" !

Ye jist always need tae mind tae screw the heid when it matters and keep yer wits aboot ye.

Lifes fur livin an yer a lang time deid!

iam into my trials riding bay - same fun no tax & if you fall off its usually no than 10 mph - only downside is its usually coming from a great height, ouch !!!

bay, a raced mx fir a good few years. I managed to mangle ma self and others a fair few times, but it's horses fir courses mucker.

If yer worried aboot getin back home in one piece then imo don't go oot.

I'm not sayin fir one second that yer should go oot and be hell bent on sliding into and oot of every corner, jist that if it's playin on yer mind it must affect yer concentration.

I know that reading yer post's yer a proud faither of a youngin and all the constraints that come with being responsible fir yer child, I'll not go on but I know where yer comin fae.

Look or ask grin factor whit happened to him, "whit's fir yae 'ill no go roon yer" Whither yer walkin, sleepin, wankin, shagin, driving or ridein or whitever else.

Jist sayin don't go oot preoccupied, dirt or road.

Stay safe mucker.

i know when my 2 girls were born (15 & 17 yrs ago) having the bike was a god send :yes - don't mean it like it sounds but it was my only way at the time of having time to myself - stick with it bay :thumbup, in couple of yrs time you'll be glad you did - then in a few yrs after that you'll become a taxi service & a mobile cheque book :yes

I've got two daughters and the thought of not coming home one day after a ride and them growing up without a dad ***** with my head.

But I love bikes and I'd be a miserable ****** if I didn't ride.

Plus I've known people live very safe lives - never overweight, drink in moderation, never smoked etc, never ridden bikes or do anything remotely risky... and seen them die well before their time through cancer, or other serious health issues.

My view is if I'm happy and do what I love doing with like-minded people then I'll be a better dad. A life of sitting on the sofa and the garden centre at weekends sure as hell isn't for me.

As has been said above, life is for living. Ride hard, ride safe*

I think people may have got the wrong point of this post. All I'm saying is that he reckons it's mrs fun. I've never ridden mx before so wouldn't know. I'm not preoccupied when I ride thinking I'm gonna die. I wrote my car off 2 yrs ago day before my 36th birthday and got on my bike the day after to drop Summat off to work. Hasn't stopped me driving.

Just the fun factor I was thinking about

i have both, wr250 that i use through the winter and the weather not good. and a gen 1 tuono for the summer months, best of both worlds if you ask me.
two totally different kinds of buzz, green laning is great and yeh makes you smile every time, you can come accross some very difficult sections so the risk aint much different if you ask me, even if your not going that fast. and the other thing is through the summer when its hot and dusty on every section its not as much fun. i wouldnt be without the t, would be to much to sacrifice.

I have both . Just do the same.
You can fall off either and get injured or trip in the street etc just enjoy your time here on earth.

Just bought a RMX250 (lovely stinky noisy 2 stroke)... hours of fun, but wouldnt give up riding on the road for it.... Sod it...Have BOTH ! ! ! !

:)

Like the others say, if you can afford it, have both. I race motocross & find I push myself that little more than on the road & if the red mist does descend at least I'm on track. Makes me a calmer more cautious rider on the road as got nowt to prove & don't want any of the numpty drivers stopping me getting home to my family. But, the road bike will give you a buzz that the enduro bike won’t :yeahright

Done a few enduro’s, many in Wales, and your mate ain't lying, it's one of the cheapest & best buzz's you'll get. The annual Dawn to Dusk near Port Talbot is a good one. Done the 6 hour on my own & the 12 hour as a 2 man team, both times nearly finished me, fook the 24 hour!

Two things though. Don't be one of these disrespectful fookers that think they have the right to ride where they want without the correct kit. It's these folk that are causing the good tracks (mainly motocross) around the county to close. And it can hurt when you crash but at least you'll probably walk away. I've broken arms (several times), legs (several times), ribs, fingers, collar bones & my cheek bone in the short 20 years I've been doing it :bawling Now I'm getting older I think it's a sign that I'm not actually that good at it!

If I had the money, i'd love to have a crack at circuit racing too but the arrival of baby no.3 has put a stop to that idea. My mate who's ***** on a motocross bike seems to have taken to it quite well, lol

funny innit' ive done some trials ,still got the gasgas,go greenlaning on the xr400, ride the T and mountain bike. yet smashed my right leg to **** slipping over on the garden path.... **** that really fukin hurt... knee pointing to the sky, foot to the side touching the floor.... anyhow back to it,bikes are fun and after a time without one any bike is fun..

True that. Bust my ankle when my daughters challanged me to jump over the safety net on their trampoline last summer. Sounded like a good idea at the time, never letting a 3 & 5 year old taunt me again, lol.

Back to bikes. If it's in your veins, don't matter how good you are, as long as your on two wheels you'll be happy as fook. Remember when I bought my first house. Had to sell up the lot, got a buzz on a mini moto my wife bought me for a laugh till it seized.

know how you felt windy :rolleyes - hit a car that pulled out in front of me at 30mph - got a broken hip, broken left arm (in 16 places), dislocated all my left hand fingers & wrist bones - that was all done at 30mph :eek - luck (if you can call it that) was that i had 2 coppers as witnesses :thumbup

when i bought my first house i sold my R1 and needed something to do so took up minimoto racing, got really hooked and raced them for 5 years then 2 years at the mini bikes, was a fantastic time, converted an old van into a camper, few beers and bbq over the weekend, it was ace, and its bringing back the memories now.
eventually found myself back with the road bike though.

I'm totally in agreement , done loadsa green laning loved it !

Both if yu can afford it!

Wouldn't get rid of a road bike though.....
