tuono 1000r gear shift

Hi newbie here embarking on buying a tuono, just been to see a 2004 1000r today but the gear shift pattern was reversed ie 1 up and the rest down.
Can anyone shed any light on this ? It didn't have the external linkage to modify to this pattern just the lever straight in to the box
Cheers Tim

That's called "GP Shift" with the idea being that its easier to upshift by pushing down than pulling up, especially while leaned over. I never saw a great need for it myself, but then I'm not out winning moto gp races;)

I'm not sure what is done on the T to achieve this, my guess is that its fairly simple - someone here will know:)

Its not a simple job unless you use the external linkage, this is all done internally which requires a new selection drum and an engine strip, so this must have exited the factory like this, it just seems unusual has anyone come across this on a tuono 1000r before. Its not a factory
cheers

The reason racers do it is so they can get a gear up exiting a corner - they dont have to get a toe under the lever at full lean.

might only save a tenth, but a tenth a lap can be victory etc.

I can see why its done, what i don't see is why this bog standard tuono1000r has it fitted, I can't find it as an option anywhere, it hasn't got the linkage fitted it is all taken care of internally, I don't want to buy a bitza, the tuono racing had it fitted as standard, has anyone heard of it on a bog standard before

I've NEVER seen it on a Rotax engine - the "Racing" is exactly same as the standard bike - it was supplied with the "GP shifter" linkage to make it race style. They sell on Ebay for about £100 a pop.
Only engine difference on the Racing/Factory models is slightly altered gear ratios.

Q. The gear lever is facing backwards attached to the gear selector shaft, isn't it?

everything looked as it should, apart from the gp style reverse shift pattern, I phoned the dealer and asked him to check the engine number against the log book, it didn't match. Needless to say that deal is dead off to look at another tomorrow.
Thanks any way
Tim
