Tuning or chip ?

Morning all, just a quick one i recently bought a rsv Millie it's registered as an 04 but it is a gen 1 and the previous owner had put a moto gp can on it (only a slip on) and whilst it makes a very good noise I don't think it's helping the power output ? I put a k&n on it last week "worked out cheaper than a standard" I don't really fancy spending a fortune on power commanders or chips so what is my best way to get the best out of my bike ? And is tunning an option ? Prices etc...... cheer simon

Does it have standard sprockets? Most people change them (smaller at front and larger at back). You lose a bit of top end speed but gain some acceleration. If they need changing anyway then it's a cheap mod.

Rob :)

Both sprockets have bin replaced upon purchase of the bike (standard) but I was thinking more like the engine isn't running its best due to the air/fuel mixture because of the air filter and exhaust ?

You might want to send a PM to DrRossi asking about a new chip. Not sure how much he charges.

Rob :)

The bike runs smoothly and is problem free I just expected a little bit more from it if I'm honest, gettin left for dust by a 916 and a nera isn't my idea of fun ( ill accept the nera ) lol feel asif I'm havin to ride it like a 4 and using the revs rather than the beastly v-twins torque

From what you say (about being left for dust) it sounds like you want more than minor improvements. You'll just have to get your wallet out! ;)

get some sportmax gp tyres on it brembo road and track pads it will make the world of difference trust me the 916 will have to shut off before you do

Lmao yea probaly or could be down to just not bein that good of a rider :) but anyway I'll get it checked out ASAP might even try and find one in a shop to test ride and see if it's any different! This is the first Millie iv had anyway

Got the pads and got a set of Maxxis :)If they good enough for guy Martin then They are good enough for me lol (bin waitin to say that for ages lol)

it may run well but you'd be surprised what a co2/tb balance can do ..book it in with Griff at Aprilia Performance he knows these inside out ..he's based in Tamworth and is worth every penny.

if you dont want to spend too much throw a 15 or 16 tooth front sprocket on it to liven it up

but if you need/want more then its a drrossi or gabro chip ( approx 50-60 ) and a modded header (130)to liberate a bit more power especially in the midrange...little cans not good for power ...you've already got a k+n filter but there are different airboxes to try as well,

Nice one mate that's the info I was after, already in contact with drRossi he's sending me a manual to go through and I think I might try get it in to griff before Bristol :)) Thanx to every1 else for the input

Ey up,

Wot Dayshy is not saying is that the 916 is infact a 996 with about £5k spent on the engine and every go fast extra fitted, the rider is a 5' 9'' snake, Dayshy is a 6' 4'' brick s**t house, might have a bit to do with it, mate your bike is fine, just need to get to know it!! LOL

hi mate i could sell you my 2000 mille but you need very strong hands and a dam good grip to ride it and if you have a yellow streak in you then it aint the bike for you mate. but lol it aint for sale :biggrin it would care you shitless when the full power kicks in, it makes my 2002 rsvr feel like your riding a xj600 lol

What are all the mods you've done, I've got 2002 and was wondering what else I could do, so far got the aprilia titanium exhaust, K&N, removed air restrictor, there's a chip in it that was blow for a Mivv race can but dannyb is sending me his old titanium chip to see how that works

hi mate ,i would like to say ive done all of the mods to my bike ,but im just the guy that bought it that way lol and thank god to .the last owner must have spent a lot of his cash to mod the bike which are remote ohlie rear shock k-tech front forks mods, set of rear sets , leo vince exaust k&n air filter did have 2 stack type filters but i changed them to single k&n power commander 3 usb ive been told itsa standard chip fitted .i was also told by the last owner that the cams were changed but how can i tell lol ,the bike was set up on a dyno a few years back i have the dyno result somewhere .i fitted a new chain and sprockets .it did have 16 f 42 r now standard 17 / 42 and it still wants to wheelie lol .im not sure if its had any head work done or valves i jst cant be sure .ive had the bike 2 years now it was my first v-twin and ive just bought my second rsvr mille 02 model and its defo much slower than the old beast .ive never driven any other owners milles before so cant comment .hope some of this **** makes sense mate

It does, it basically sound like you've got the usual mods but the power commanders been weel set up with dyno, good result like, I only put on the titanium exhaust and I can honestly say it feels like a different bike! Feels like 15-20 extra bhp, but the chip that's in it may have kept me from going as well as it should, I'm gonna try the new one then see where I go, cheers for the info :)

the rsvr i bought yes the slow one lol im going to stick some red-x fuel cleaner the next time out see how it goes as the bike didnt get used much could be **** in the system .it worked great on my old mille now i use it every few tank fills keeps it running tip-top
