Hi guys, need your HONEST opinions please. Will be trading in my ZX6R in a few weeks and seriously considering getting a Tuono. I will have upto £4500 to spend, hoping to grab the newer version, around 2007 plate. What are the things to look out for when buying, dont hold back, tell me all the bad points aswell as the good, cheers

Awricht Smudger, which ever yin you go fir watch oot fir the uncontrollable grin you dinnae get fae IL4s

Went from J1 to a gen2 Tuono 06>09.
Probs are
Misting Clocks
Brown connector
Need a full charged battery to turn them over (mine lives on an optimiser)
Crap on fuel
In standard form hard work around town but with smaller front sprocket, cans and map 2 =great
Eats soft tyres
back brake not the best if it works at all

Think thats the main bad bits

Good bits
Better visibility
my neck does not hurt any more
power wheelies out of corners
super handling
engine braking
the noise

It did take me a long time to gel with the bike as it needs a different style of riding

Dont forget the w@nk suspension on the R version, I personally would not reccomend the R to anyone who gets a lick on, (on the road or track), you need to factor in the cost of a rear ohlins and some new springs in the front IMHO. I would however reccomend the factory.

Id test ride a Tuono, a superduke and a speed trip, then buy the one you like best, all can be got for 4.5.

Whats the wind blast like at high speed, is it a case of hold on for dear life or not too bad, not had a sit up bike since my elsie. Has anyone put flatter bars on to reduce this?

Get a Gen 1 racing. I'm very biased. All the best ohlins suspension. Smoothe to ride as u like etc. I wouldn't change mine for a gen 2 unless it was a factory which u can't get for your budget

Ah only notice it aroond the 90ish mark but it widnae matter if it wiz a T or any other naked....

.... naked sit up position is gonna get ye blasted nae matter the bike.

An opinion?... Ah have owned a very large range o awe sorts different bikes ower the last 30 odd years and would be hard pushed tae find anything oot there today that meets everything ah want oot a bike other than a Tuono. It jist took me awe that time tae realise it!

An while the sussies aint the worlds best they also aint that ****! FFS its an Aprilia Tuono so its gonna have some sorted o decent handlin as a base point. Again the standard suspension works fine fur me an ah widnae say ahm a slouch oot there! Trackdays maybe but oan the roads works fine enough!

Proper test ride on a bike you fancy then get back to us. Razzin roads, towns, m/way etc.

I came from a ZX6R P8 to the T. I loved that Kwacker but is was way too focused, ride it like you stole it and it was amazing, try and ride vaguely sensibly and it was a bag of *****.

The T does it all, town, motorway (albeit 90mph tops 'cos of windblast), A roads, B roads, touring, cruising, and when you're in the mood (i.e. most of the time) it does batshit mental. Well. Very well. :beerchug:roost:hail

I came from a B1H to an 07 Tuono r, and I'm not sure the comment about the R is justified, yes the suspenion is not as good as the Factory version and why would it be, but for £4500 you will not get a factory, Ohlins rear can be picked from ebay cheap but unless you can exceed the bikes limits the suspenion on the R is ok if set correctly, Pros against the ZX6 are power delivery, easier to ride and a million times more comfy, depending on what version zx you have the suspenion is more comfy, wheelies easier, turns in better, feels more stable in most situations, sound of the engine (with after market exhausts), looks better IMO, lights are better, instrament panel has more options, mirrors are better, 0-60 is faster, front brake is awesome and brembos all round.

Cons - servicing is more, fuel economy is shocking (I get between 100-120 a tank although reserve is 5ltrs), parts can be expensive, wind blast is terrible (get an ermax screen), insurance can be high, corrostion can be an issue (keep it waxed and clean), rear brake is almost non existant (unless you get some griff rear sets about £350), top end is not as high as the zx, misting clocks (have this on mine but not a massive issue), clocks display random numbers when wet, battery (although ive not had an issue with my standard battery), high beam lights are powerful but useless, rear tyres cost more as they are 190's not 180's and can be chewed up quickly, pillion seat is tinny I would suggest getting the comfy touring seat.

Must haves when you buy one, aftermarket exhaust preferably Arrow or Akras as they are very expensive, FSH, good tyres, try to get one with crash bungs as they cost about £80+.

I wanted either a Tuono, speed triple, z1000 or a superduke, I was originally going to get the SD but tried the Tuono and it was everything the SD was but more manageable I love my bike and made the right choice, it can be a bit nackering on longer journeys with aftermarket exhausts with no baffle so I now where ear plugs and it makes a massive difference.

Good luck

Hers's a couple

Do it mate, you wont regret it, they call it the Tuono Grin for a reason :biggrin

Most of the things to look out for have already been covered. I've owned lots of jap crap in the past & had the same doubts going Italian (ffs don't buy a Ducati) when I got my RSVR 3 years ago. Now ride a Tuono so couldn't of found it that bad an experience.

Following on from Dans post, I ride an R model & don't have any issues with the suspension. Note to self, ride harder & twist the right wrist more!!!

You won't get any more problems with an Aprilia than any of the other brands, they just differ. If you do take the plunge & experience any problems, you'll always be able to find the solution / answer on here or from 'The Jaffa Cake Kid' at Aprilia Performance :thumbup

have had an FZR1000, ZX9R, GSXR1000, KTMLC4, Dorsoduro, 929Fireblade & none of them have the same grin factor as a T. just do it!!
If only I could sort out those fekkin engine management lights that keep coming on.
Tried to follow advise yesterday, Full moon, Cockeral, Naked virgin etc etc but would they come on for me when I wanted them too. Not a chance.

Pro: Best ******* fun you can have with your clothes on.
Con: Your license is in jeopardy of being lost every ******* time you take her out.

Aye go fur it mate-it's like tryin tae stay on lucifers back efter he's caught ye daein his daughter. No had mine long but startin tae gel wi the thing noo. The mutts nutts.
