hi guys, new to forum, i just have a few q's for you who ride rsv, factory's or mille's. i ride a 2006 zx6r and have done for 1.5years, previously had gsxr600, rvf400,nsr80. im looking at my next bike and im leaning towards my hearts decision of the rsv1000, id buy new so would be new model. now heres the thing i rake up alot of milage, use my bike every day, so im wondering how these aprilias would hold up to hard miles, id like to keep my zx6r for a hack bike if i can afford it when the time comes but if i cant i dont want to buy a bike that cant take a beating, dont get me wrong i take great care of my bikes, always do a weekly clean and a complete overall clean every 8-10weeks. so basically how are they to live with, service, can servicing be done by yourself if ur fairly handy at it or are there certain vtwin no no's?
please be honest

Welcome dec , i cant speak personally about a new model as i own a 2000 model but im sure many would agree with me that the rsv's are very reliable and can take as much abuse as the rest . Have a go on one first and im sure that will make your mind up like it has for many on here including myself and i wont be changing mine thats for sure :thumbup

Welcome to the site dec :thumbup

I have the new 04 shape, looks are a little more Japanese, but do prefer the older version (02 model :inlove) as it has more low down grunt, yet went for the newer one as I got a terrific deal on the bike :biggrin

Had it for about 18 months now, bought with 3,300 miles and now just clocked up 17,000 and she's still strong, and she's had some abuse fella :devious Been all round europe on it and no drama's and still pretty comfortable to ride. Just get on one and try it, and you'll fall for it matey :thumbup

Dec, reliability wise they are as good as anything out there. Try to avoid having an alarm put on as it can affect the "Can" wiring system through poor installation. Servicing is every 6000 milles, costs are typically £150 / £300. They are easy to service yourself, though slightly different to your average jap 4.

You'll need to keep it hooked up to an optimate to keep the battery tip top as these bikes need high cranking amps to start.

Mods wise, they are way over geared as standard. Drop one tooth off the front and go two up on the rear to bring the bike alive. This won't effect the speedo either. Put a decent set of cans on ( Akrapovic or Arrow ) and get the dealer to switch the ECU to MAP2 and reset throttle bodies to unleash the extra HP.

That's about it really, the new 2008 colours look very good especially the white. There are fantastic deals on 2007 model bikes at the moment, some dealers in the UK are giving away free Akrapovic cans as part of the deal. 2007 Factory's are about the same price as 2008 RSVR's, so if you want the extra's go for one of these.

As Steve and 69 say, take a test ride on one, you'll be amazed at how good they are and you'll wonder why you never bought one years ago.

good luck fella :thumbup

thanks for the info lads, are there any main differences with the rsvr and the factory? also is it much the same as with the jap 4's, in terms of modifying, with my zx6r i installed full exhaust system, air filter and power commander with custom map, would you do the same with the rsv's or are there different essential mods?

Welcome to the site fella,, not much to add really. Just bought an `05 RSV-R and love it. Had jap fours and twins in the past and the prilla has a very different wow/grin factor for me.
Don`t do monster milage but did a lot of research before buying it. All concerns over reliability and services cost quashed by these guys on here.

The dark side is calling,, resistance is futile young padawan.
