Starting problem

Ive a feeling its me being thick but....

Ive just tried to start the tuono (gen2) after a long winter hibernation and it won't even turnover. When pushing the start button the sidestand light flashes (sidestand is up) then a few very audible clicks from under the seat. Charge should be good as its been an optimate throughout.

I think ive encountered this before over the years but i cant for the life of me remember the cause/solution. My memory's focked!!!!

Yep,sounds like the sidestand switch is not making contact.
You might need to remove it to squirt any contact cleaner in there. That little bolt that screws into the stand pivot will be held in with thread locker and can be a bit of a bastard to get out.

Well; ive just cleaned the sidestand switch and its sorted that as the flashing light's gone now when I thumb the starter button and I can see that it goes on/off when I move the sidestand

But...it still won't start. Just the same loud clicking from under the seat.

Any ideas?

Sure your batt is ok ? also check connections from batt to earth on frame and the pos terminal, could put jump lead on earth side of batt to another earth part of frame to check ??

Loud clicking sounds like the starter motor isn't getting enough juice (batteries can die from old age as well as not being charged).

I don't yet have a Tuono, so I don't know the layout of the battery compartent etc... But if you removed the battery to charge it, are you sure you put it back in the right way (connected the right wires to the right posts on the battery)?

If not, try a new battery... Or (if it's possible to do, I don't know if it is) try jump starting it from a car battery. If it starts from a car batter, odds are your battery is dead.

Ok,......
1.Your battery has to be fully charged with at least 12.5v at the terminals.(use a multimeter to check)Get someone to press the stsrter button while you check the voltage again.
2.The clicking noise is the starter solenoid energising. Its on the rear subframe, behind the r/h sidepanel.Use the multimeter again to check voltage and continuity across the two main terminals.
3.Check the starter motor lead connection is clean and tight. Its down by the front cylinder,...kinda behind the voltage regulator.

Many thanks for all your replies and advice

Despite reading 13 volts on a multimeter it turned out to be the battery that was focked. Found out by jumping it. One new battery and all is well.
