starting is getting worse

your screws sound in the ballpark. Certainly close enough probably not to be your issue i think. slightly unusual setup as front is staggered 50 mbar more vac than rear so in general tends to be further in but that's not always the case.

No service interval for the filter. The manual just says blow it out with an air line whenever you have the tank apart.

read on another forum, someone had a slight split in the return fuel line, so was losing pressure!
so i'm gonna check those thoroughly too....
dont ask me whybut i still think mine is fuel related as its worse to start with less than half a tank of fuel..

gonna look for bubbles from the starter motor when i start it ths morning as well, see if i can see any leaks within....

gonna borrow a soldering iron and re-solder some of the wires that i have still to do (1 being the connector to the fuel pump)

if all that fails then i'm lost.....

my garage can't find it - i can't find it - wish you lived up ere spoonz haha

ok started her up this morning first time straight away, was looking in tank when starting and have to say i cant tell the difference between minute bubbles or bubbles from the vibration of the engine.
so yes it looked like the surface of the fuel was covered in bubbles but could be from engine running vibrations.

started again - first time - four times now starting first time

will keep monitoring - got soaked on way to work today, so will see how she starts tonight too

Just to stick my two pennies worth in. :eatcorn

Have you checked the valve clearances are within spec?

If the valve clearances have closed up it will hold the valve off the seat and make starting difficult and possibly cause your popping/backfiring you described earlier.

they were done by dealer about 8 weeks ago as part of main servcie, i can only take his word for it that they were done correctly

Did your starting issues appear after they adjusted the clearances?

Or would you say this has been something that has gradually got worse over a longer period of time?

its intermittent - which says to me electrical

but soemtimes when i'm low on fuel (but can still see plaenty in the tank) she just wont start at all which says to me fuel/pump

when running she's fine - never misses a beat so if it was valve clearances, wouldn't it affect running as well

Agreed, if it was valve clearances then it wouldn't be intermittent.

Is the fuel pump relay OK, would be my first check if the pump fails to prime?

Cheapest option too.

One of the pain in the arse faults to find.

yeaih i'm gonns re-solder everything myself ths weekend, to ensure i'm getting no resistance...
i've found so many stupid little faults over the past few weeks, previous owneer must have proper abused it......

strangly enough, my re-routing the fuel line and return line fuel line and sorting out of all the insulation seems to be going the right way

today she has started all four times first time in a second. the next test is when fuel gets low...

i've even taken all the banjo bolts out, marked the holes so i can make sure they are correctly lined up, for proper fueling.

finally i've been praying to the bike gods to make her start....

oh and i showed her a picture of a DB7 and threatened her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
