Hi Jayne, really need more info - ie what sort of starter problems? Does it:

1) Turn over but make a horrible mechanical noise from the left side of the engine or just whirr?

2) Turn over slowly, or just click from under the seat and not turn over at all?

The problem is most likely to be either the sprag clutch (1), or a flat battery and/or dodgy solenoid.

Welcome to the fold Jayne, i'm assuming you are a girl anyway.

We do need more info on what the symptoms and noises etc are to kick of, where are you in the country as well, it may be someone can have a listen to the problem if they are close to you.

I take it you are not mechanically minded?

Anyway, have a good think about what is happening to the bike and try and listen for noises and what area they are coming from and put up a post with all the info you can:thumbup

one im a guy. cant choose names. and now the starter relay isnt makin noises but a fuse behind the ecu is makin knocking noises. starter was movin once i took it apart n put in a new battery. dont know bout clutch sprag?

Dude, as above or explain what happens when you try to start it

Back to basic's

1. Are the battery terminals tight.
2. Check both 30amp fuses, replace if in doubt.
3. Tip over sensor, is it the right way up ?.
4. With a large screwdriver short across the two large terminals on the starter solenoid, does it turn over ?
5. Check the kill switch, they can packup

now my starter is running n wants to turn over my engine but b4 its able to it grinds. solenoid works fine, new battery, terminals tight. bike doesnt turn off anymore.

Oh dear it certainly sounds like your sprag assembly needs some TLC. :eatcorn

Mate, you would have got a lot more responses if you'd let them think you were a girl:lol
Do a search for 'Sprag' on here and all you need to know about the RSV's one major weakness will be revealed.
If you're still not sure, come back and ask.

what the hell is a sprag? how do i get at it n where can i pick one up at?
In a nutshell, the sprag is a one way clutch that allows the starter motor to drive the engine but it freewheels once the engine starts (bit like pedalling a bicycle). It's bolted to the back of the flywheel rotor, behind the left hand engine cover. Unfortunately, it can be a weak point on these bikes. As already said, if you do a search there is a lot of info on here about it and the good news is there are cheaper alternatives to the Aprilia part.

whats a cheaper alternative? i have replaced the battery, starter relay n overlooked the starter. is there anyone that can help me in buffalo, new york?

whats a cheaper alternative to aprilias? ive already have taken apart everything such as the starter, relay n battery. now ive just have to take apart the sprag clutch.
