I've been away for over two weeks, but was delighted that my RSV started instantly tonight when I tried it for the first time..

It's a testiment to the good advice on this site..regarding the electrics on these bikes - they are reliable as long as you sort out a few well known issues!

I've done the wiring mods, fitted a Shindengen FH20AA reg/rec, fitted a new Varta YTX14, 150A solenoid and new plugs.

But no buggering about needed after a two week stand - excellent!
:)

Thats what its all about i love tinkering BUT i also enjoy riding I've not put a different r/r on yet or a 14 amp battery.,but i've done the brown connector and extra earth strap and 150 amp starter solenoid BIG improvement :thumbup

Hi mate.
Would it to much to ask you to let me know how to do these mods in as much detail possible as I need to do these mods to my rsv. Where did you get the parts so I can get same.
Thanks Denzo.

I agree I have done the same mods and haven't had to bother using my optimate charger between rides, goes to show spending your time and money on worthwhile mods puts a big smile on your face

Hi Denzo, There's a thread on here 'wiring mods' (i think) dead easy though.Remove the seat disconnect your earth lead remove seat unit you'll see the BROWN CONNECTOR part it and cut the YELLOW wires out of the block, strip the wire and solder the together singley does not matter in what order. Get yourself a earth battery lead and connect it to the frame (i did behind the rectifier) then with the original one connect to the battery. I got my 150 amp starter solenoid from bikerworld £29.99 delivered.Hope this will help any problem just ask but loads of people on here will give you advice.

Thank you very much for taking time to reply to me will get to work on this A.S.A.P.
Denzo.

Sorry me again. I have been trying to find bikerworld on net to order 150 amp starter soleniod but had no luck. If it is a phone only shop would you be able to give me the number please.
Thank you again.
Denzo.

It's in Coleshill birmingham 01217480000. Look on ebay for 150amp starter solenoid.

Had my RSV nearly 7 years, now just short of 66.000 miles, and I'm still relieved when it starts. Show's how ingrained our prejudices are for Italian bikes. :)

Whenever me and my mates get back on our bikes to leave somewhere they always look at me when it starts and give the thumbs up. I think it's funny and one of the cool things about these bikes.
I mean how boring is it that you know your honda will start everytime lol!

Hi denzo..

Sorry it's taken a while to get back to you..

The battery is a Varta TTZ14 SBS - I just looked around online for the best deal. Can't remember who I got it from in the end.

The solenoid I got from Wemoto, or if you want to pay twice the price is Yamaha part #4KD-81940-00-00

The Shindengen FH20 AA I got this exact kit from this guy in the US (took two weeks, but half the price of the part over here):
SHINDENGEN MOSFET FH020AA REGULATOR/RECTIFIER KIT REPLACES FH012AA | eBay

NB: installing this kit includes removing the brown and white connectors from hell and replacing them with soldered joints. Well that's what I did!

I hope this is a help.

There's plenty of posts on all these subjects and more on this forum - just search! It's really worthwhile spending some time researching these issues before you dive in.
Cheers..

Hi Just put my Varta TTz14BS-S battery on charging at 13.6 on the metre and 13.1 on the dash. Mods done are brown connector and extra earth lead:grinning. Thinking of doing the FH20AA regulator/rectifier mod kit

Mine is about 13.9 on dash and 14.3 on meter, I'm sure someone else will be along and put me straight but seems alittle low from reading other posts . But as long as its charging the battery properly then it will be cool I'm sure :)

The bike is ticking over at 1500 rpm when i've been out it only shows 12 + on the dash. If i leave it for 10/15 mins and start it up it will show 13.4+ :confused:confused

Hey Geoff, ignore the dash readings they can be way out. I see you've already done the wiring mods so you should be getting higher volts than that. I'm sure (iirc) mine was reading nearly 14.5 when it was idling after the new battery was on (varta ttz 14sbs) I haven't done any wiring mods to mine as the connectors look like new with not even any discolouration to the terminals, must be a one off.lol. Ill recheck my readings with the multimeter in a bit and post for you to compare.
