I know most of you who have been members of this zone for a long while now may get p***ed off at answering this question yet again, but your advice would be appreciated.

I've just checked the sprockets on my recently purchased 04 RSVR and it currently has 16/40 on (couldn't tell you what length of chain tho!). Having read through some of the previous threads reference the size of sprockets I'm a little confused (doesn't take much, lol)

Should I be looking to reduce the front sprocket to 15 and increase the rear sprocket size even further? Would this improve low down torque?

The information you guys have posted on this site is invaluable. It's down to you guys that I've already ordered the yam solenoid, jet 40, rear brake heat shield, am looking at mesh to make some grills and have emailed Bubsywoo re: new sidestand. My missus is well pleased with you all :angry

Not as pleased as me tho :thumbup

Hi matey...My RSVR had 15 front and 42 rear (I think the chain had been changed) and it accelerated like a scalded cat....worth looking into!

Tone, yes as standard your 2004 model RSVR comes with 16/40 gearing and a 106 link 525 pitch chain as standard. A major improvement in rideability and instant drive can be had by going one tooth less on the front sprocket and 2 teeth up on the rear sprocket effectively making your bikes gearing 15/42. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes. Try B&C express for some renthal sprockets. Go for the hard annodized rear. They'll be about £20 for the front and £30 for the rear from memory

Go for a 15 front, i run a 43 rear on standard chain, but that is as far as you can go, this brings the rear wheel right forward and shortens the wheelbase making the bike a bit quicker handling and slightly flightier, it does not increase torque as you are not touching the engine, it does mean you will accelerate quicker and get more punch out of corners, a cheap and effective mod, i use Talon stuff and can recommend them for sprockets and chains:thumbup

oh bugger got to go...Auf wiedersehen Pet-the first episode is on Ta Ta! Donkeyshite etc....

hi guys

Im looking into doing this mod, i have the standard stuff on my 04. Id like to change the front spocket for a 15 tooth. Im guessing if i change the front i will have to increase the rear sprocket to compensate or can i leave the standard rear on there??

thanks in advance guys :thumbup

:thumbup hello everybody.Go with the 43 rear you will like it with the 15 front.. peace out.:biggrin donnie

You can leave the rear at standard which is 40 and just fit the 15 front, see how you like that and if you want more go to 42 or 43 on the rear, i run 15/43 on mine for road use, depends what you want mate:thumbup
