You can leave the rear at standard which is 40 and just fit the 15 front, see how you like that and if you want more go to 42 or 43 on the rear, i run 15/43 on mine for road use, depends what you want mate:thumbup

thanks badger for the advise mate, since buying my bike ive not had the chance to get out there and give it some due to the sh*t weather, the gearing is totally different to my zx636r (last bike), ive heard lots of people change the front sprocked although i wasnt sure if you could do it without changing the rear.

I guess what im looking for is the bike to be quick off the mark and fast coming out of corners, im not worried about top end. :devious

Do you know the best/cheapest place to get this sprocket? Any links would be more than appreciated.

yeah good idea mate, do you mean walk or ski to UFO? lol.

Alan says you can get a Renthal one for as little as £12 online, just wondered where :dunno

Little1uk i was going to ask you if you needed/wanted any work doing end of March time beginning of april time as Griff (fuse box) is visiting me to service my machine and also do suspension setup, cool if you dont but just thought id ask as your just up the road.
Prices are really good and the blokes a wizard!

Hi badger/all :thumbup

Just a quick one before i buy these new sprockets if ud be so kind!

If i run 15/42 will the top end be effected very much or is not really that noticable? I dont indend on red lining the bike everywhere but was just wondering!

The other thing is, will the miles read incorrect (greater) on the speedo as we are changing the gear ratio? Doesnt the speedo read from the shaft that drives the front sprocket? This would mean that the speedo would have more miles on it than the bike has actually done? :dunno

Would 15/42 be practical for long distance journeys (motorways), meaning will it drink the fuel in no time?

thanks in advance :thumbup

good evening to ya, as far as the speedo goes this is controled via a sensor on the back wheel so your mph and milage will stay the same, i have a 15 tooth on the front which made a small differance and also have a 42 tooth for the rear to go on, when i get off me fat arse and fit it so should be more fun.....:thumbup

Speedo, as Carpe said above, so no problem there.

I run 15/43 and mine still pulled this (on a track of course)

so i doubt you will notice it to much with 15/43, they are overgeared to start with and lowering the gearing can actually make it faster top speed wise, it will still pull 170 if you have an 04, or about 155 if a pre 04 bike.

15/42 will still be OK for motorway, it may use slightly more fuel but the benefits outweigh this by miles.

My advice is just do it, if you don't like it you can keep the 15 on and go back to a 40 on the rear, it's not a big job:thumbup

If it wasnt for that bad fault youve got with you bike i think id want to buy it:biggrin

very very nice badger, goes exactly with the wheels! :thumbup

so you recommend this over the other rear ones B+C sell. I was thinking of perhaps getting both from there, its about £3.00 postage bringing the total to £49 ish, not to bad really. The rear is hard gold anodised.

Honestly, they are top notch you will not be disappointed mate, the finish is perfect in every sense plus they will last for miles and miles of supersprox smiles:biggrin
