Sidestand woes

Sidestand Retort by Bubseywoo

Listen in chaps,

The one piece stands are still being developed so no-one has the new version yet.

I should have it sorted by next week.

Out of the 300 odd stands I've sold in the last year I have only had a few complaints of this type of thing happening! I have spoken to the welding shop & they can only put it down to someone not prepping the stands properly before welding.

Can I just say that I WILL fix this & I will replace any stands without cost that are suspect .Can I ask that those who feel the need to keep bad mouthing me to give it a rest PLEASE !
I have to rely on this to some extent to bring in a little bit of money to enable me & my kids to have maybe a few things we wouldn't neccessarily have, if all this carries on then no-one will buy my products & that'll be that !

All of this was done in good faith & the last thing I wanted was for anyones pride & joy to be damaged....the stand was supposed to increase the stability NOT make it worse.

Anyways I will keep you all informed.
By the way the stand that is being sold at the moment was tested on my bike for a few months & it was used to grease the chain etc by pivoting the bike on the stand...I do not possess an xray machine !

Gary, i dont have one of your stands but looked into it. I decided against it after seeing pictures of what i believed to be poor welding. Before you started selling this as an IMPROVED replacement product these stands should of under gone a series of tests to ensure these stands would never break/fracture.

Are you a welder by trade?? Do you know the signs of a bad weld or workmanship??
Welding small sections of metal together like a jigsaw puzzle is poor workmanship and cutting corners IMO, its a good thing you've now realised that, shame its taken 300 stands later with possible future failures.

My issue is that the MOT place tipped the bike on the stand to check the bearings and now it seems all out of shape and totally ******. It is tipping over further then before, and when I put the steering lock on it slips on the ground.

Thats all well and good saying that now chap but you screwed it for yourself a while ago promising people replacements but not going through with it. If ebay had a message board ud be out of business by now i recon.

If your sales are that improtant to you and the money that it provides you and your family then make it your priority to get it right and show you value your customers.

Gary,
You need to reply mate,

If my bike falls over and damages 18 months work I am going to want blood.

My stand is flexing after the MOT - What now?

OK I have replied to Danf1 who was very polite in his private message to me..but not so gracious on the forum !!!

I can do one of 2 things here...

1. Stop selling the sidestands .

2. Improve the quality of the stand & carry on !

IT'S UP TO YOU GUYS ?

By the way no I'm not friggin welder by trade & I rely on so called professionals to get it right when I contract them to produce a product for me.
I'm not a ****** pyhsicist or an engineer & yes NOW I'm getting like everybody else..****** OFF
Apologies to the moderator for the language.

Anybody wanna talk about this you know where to contact me & I WILL reply either through dialogue or if you wish verbally or by meeting up somewhere.

Your Call !

Regards
Gary

OK gary deleted the post, but my stand is flexing and I can see a crack in the weld. The bike is now on the abba stand, and to ne honest I am terrrified. I have just spent an age rebuilding this bike and can't be arsed with it tipping over.

Being honest I am well ****** off!

Sub it out to another firm whos up to the job!

If you have no knowledge in what your selling/producing, it goes without saying there will be problems

Gary, It's good to see that you've had the bottle to come on the forum and explain your side. As the original author of this tread I for one have not slagged you off. I decided on getting a stand having been extremely impressed with the workmanship of your mirror extensions. I remember your disclaimer that came with the instructions and that is the reason why I have not bothered you in any way with regard to this situation or the damage incurred. I bought the stand on the assumption that it was going to make the bike more stable and it did until this failure. As far as I'm concerned, that is my problem and I've taken it on the chin. You have to realise that as a member of this forum, which has been a great help to me, not only as an owner of one of these bikes but also on a personal nature, I feel that members deserve to be made aware of potential problems that may arise however small or large it may be, that is one of the purposes of a forum to share information. That is why I started this thread. If you are telling us that the stand in production has a head that is of a one piece construction and therefore stronger I for one would be willing to accept a replacement to make my own mind up as to whether or not I would be confident to put it on my bike knowing a bit more about the subject now.

I have one of Gary's stands on my bike, and has been there for nearly 12 months now. I keep a check on the welds, and so far all is well. I have a lot more faith in the angle my bike sits now than on the ape stand!

Danf1....Thanks mate
Sorry I was getting a little bit pissed off..nothing personal.

Tin Tin ....Thankyou for the support.

Spooky.....I appreciate your cander & understanding on this very explosive matter, after all we are talking about everyones pride & joy here.
I will keep everyone better informed with the progress on the forum.
I understand why you started the thread & that's the way it should be.

I WILL replace any stands that have failed or are showing ANY signs of weakening but I will ask that the stands are either photographed or sent back to me for 2 reasons.

1.Proof ...as I have sent stands to people before who said they hadn't recieved the stand & I had the recorded delivery proof that they HAD recieved them !
2.The engineering workshop will replace the stands that I have paid for if they have proof .

Everyone who has bought a stand from me..please PLEASE check your stands & keep an eye on them - any problems you have my tel number & email address. Here they are again: 07739 156762 OR [email protected]

Regards
Gary

TinTin, I totally agree with you the geometry of the stand is spot on, miles better than the original. Nobody is saying that these stands should be taken off all of your bikes, just for your own peace of mind check them on a regular basis. However imagine how you would feel if you came back to your bike to find it lying on its side. And then to make things worse you found out others knew about this possible problem but had not bothered to inform you, I think you would be slightly pissed.

Hi Gary.
I've had one of your stands on for about a year and I've always thought that it's one of the best investments I made for the bike.
However, having seen how Spooky's went I'm now getting a bit paranoid - especially as I have noticed that the angle of the bike has been gradually increasing as the top spreads apart a bit.
If there is to be a new, improved version, I want one. I've had a year's use out my stand so I don't expect you to replace it FoC but are you willing to do some kind of 'upgrade' deal for existing customers?
Cheers.

Exactly what has happened to mine. It is flexing and the angle in increasing. My main concern is where does the flexing stop. Is it bedding in of the materials, or is it a sign the materials are failing.

The problem I have now is what to do. Do I leave it on, until it fails or take it off. I know for a fact the damage was done at the MOT centre when the tipped it over on the stand.

I have now redesigned the stand again & I agree with the comments so the top of the stand is now being constructed out of one piece of metal instead of welding 3 pieces together.
I didn't realise this could be done until I presented the workshop with a broken stand !

Any idea when these will actually be ready for sale Gary :confused

I will chase the workshop tomorrow & give you their anwser.

I will also work out a fair deal for anyone who wants to replace their existing stands that were bought from me.

Give me a little time to work this out.

DANF1 - As I said in my message to you, I will send you another stand if you wish until the newer stands are ready ?

Have a good weekend.

Gary

Pre 04 bike too upright, wind or puncture and it will fall over.

Post 04 the opposite, leans too far
